John Mehno Talks Baseball Thru The First Half of 2017 on Sports Slam

AP baseball columnist and Baden native John Mehno joined Greg Benedetti and Matt Drzik on the July 1 edition of the Saturday Sports Slam to discuss Major League Baseball at the halfway point of the 2017 season. Among the topics were the Pirates’ struggles through the first 81 games, struggling attendance at PNC Park and in Cleveland, and who the strongest teams in the MLB are.

Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, & Food Festival Happens June 30-July 2

As long as there is a United States of America, there will be a 4th of July Weekend. Similarly, as long as there is a 4th of July Weekend, there will be the Ellwood Arts, Crafts, and Food Festival in Ewing Park. This year’s event will run from Friday, June 30 until Sunday, July 2.

Raylene Boots, the head of the committee that oversees the Festival, stopped by A.M. Beaver County to talk to Matt Drzik about this year’s event. Three main acts will be playing music during the Festival, local merchants will be selling goods, and the traditional Zambelli Fireworks show will take place on Sunday night at 10 PM.

7th Annual Beaver County BOOM! Is Set For June 24

On the night of June 24, in the skies over the Beaver and Ohio Rivers, the 7th Annual Beaver County Boom will light up Beaver County’s boroughs with a choreographed fireworks show with its “Back To The 80s” theme.

Mark and Nate Kopsack from P.U.S.H. Beaver County, Monaca Borough Manager Mario Leone, and Dr. George Zambelli from Zambelli Fireworks joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss final information for the event happening on Saturday, including what Monaca is doing to celebrate the day, as well as parking situations for those attending.

Knights Of Columbus Tee Off For McGuire Memorial On July 15

Beaver Valley Council #604 of the Knights of Columbus will be holding their 13th Annual Golf Outing for McGuire Memorial (among other charities) on July 15 at Black Hawk Golf Course on Blackhawk Road in Beaver Falls.

Dennis Garrett (Grand Knight from the Beaver Valley Council #604) and Joyce Lewis-Andrews (Director of Development/Operations at McGuire Memorial) joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss the events and need-to-know involving the 13th Annual Golf Outing, including what those attending should bring and what the money raised goes to.

Beaver County Boom To Blast Off On June 24

P.U.S.H. Beaver County, in conjunction with Zambelli Fireworks and Beaver County Radio (among other fine sponsors), will present the 7th Annual Beaver County Boom on June 24 over the Beaver and Ohio Rivers in Bridgewater.

This year’s theme is “Back To The 80s”, and the Zambelli Fireworks will be lighting up to a medley of hits and tracks from the MTV decade. There will also be live music at Thursday’s, and activities throughout the evening at the park (including the Beaver County Radio Prize van and wheel) before the 9:45 fireworks show.

Matt Drzik sat down with Mark Kopsack and Nate Kopsack from P.U.S.H., as well as Dr. George Zambelli from Zambelli Fireworks, to discuss the annual summertime event on A.M. Beaver County. Click below to hear the interview in full.

Steelers Sign Number One Pick!!

Pittsburgh Steelers 2017 number one Draft choice T.J.  Watt has signed a four year contract with the team.  Watt was drafted out of  Wisconsin where he starred at Linebacker. Watt is the last of the Steelers  eight 2017 Draft picks to sign with the team. Watt will wear the number 90 for the team. Tune into A.M. Beaver County with Matt Drzik tomorrow morning from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for a full report on Watt’s signing.

Reports say Fleury Agrees to wave No- Movement Clause!!!!!

Was it Marc Andre-Fleury’s last act as a Pittsburgh Penquin last night handing the Stanley Cup over to Matt Murray? It appears this could be the truth according to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie. He says that Fleury will be available for selection in the the Expansion Draft.  According to Lavoies’ report the Pens approached Fleury in February about waving  his no-movement clause  and he agreed.  Teams have until 5 p.m. Saturday to submit their list of protected Players and Las Vegas will make their selections on June 21, 2017 at 10 a.m..  Tune into the Saturday Sports Slam this Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and join Greg Benedetti and Matt Drzik in the discussion. Pens 2017 Stanley Cup Champs Parade Set For Wednesday

The 2017 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins arrived home today with the Stanley Cup in hand and just like last year there is going to be a big celebration and parade in downtown Pittsburgh on Wednesday June 14,2017.

According to reports the parade will be held at 11 a.m.. The Parade will follow the same route as last year starting on Liberty Ave. and proceeding down Grant Street.

Players and team dignitaries will speak on a stage set up at Point State Park. About 400 thousand fans attended last years celebration.

Henry Mancini Academy Holding Series Of Summer Theater Courses

The Henry Mancini Academy, part of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, is offering several summer theater courses for students ages 3-17, including “Seussical Jr.”, “Angelina Ballerina”, “Shakespeare In The (Lincoln) Park”, and “Improv Essentials”.

Meg Pryor, executive director of the Mancini Academy, talked to A.M. Beaver County’s Matt Drzik about these summer courses, and what students, parents, and theater goers can expect from these workshops.

41st Annual Greek Orthodox Food Festival Begins June 12 In Aliquippa

Food, music, dancing, and singing; the Aliquippa Greek Orthodox Food Festival returns to the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church on Davidson Street in Aliquippa. The festival runs from Monday, June 12th to Saturday, June 17th.

George Kazas, church member and expert of the Food Festival, joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County on June 8 to discuss the events of this year’s festival, including returning items as well as new features courtesy of local businesses.
