LISTEN: Lincoln Park Is Seeking A New School Board Member

In January, the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland learned that school

board President Chris Shovlin was retiring at the end of the year. Now the board is seeking a new member who, according to current Vice President Scott Portonova, understands the history and tradition of Midland and Lincoln Park:

Portonova also spoke about the process in which the candidates will be subjected and selected:

Applicants MUST be Pennsylvania residents and have their applications submitted by March 23.

LISTEN: Destruction Begins At Site For New Speedway Station In New Brighton

Out with the old, in with the new. That’s the action being set in motion on the block in New Brighton where the new Speedway gas station and convenience store will be operating starting in the summer, says New Brighton Borough Manager Tom Albanese:

 

In his interview with Beaver County Radio, Albanese said he is very pleased to see the new business coming into that section of town:

 

As far as New Brighton residents and travelers are concerned, the construction should only cause slight traffic issues between now and grand opening:

 

The new Speedway station will be located in the area of New Brighton where the former Brighton Beverage (later Fischer’s Beverage) stood.

LISTEN: Jim Shaner Talks About The 2018 Maple Syrup Festival With Matt Drzik!

Believe it or not, the 41st Annual Maple Syrup Festival is less than a month away! That means the pancakes and sausage will be on the grill, the sap will be coming out of the trees, and Beaver County will celebrates one of its most popular tradition.

Jim Shaner, who is the Executive Director of the Beaver County Conservation District (the organization in charge of the festival), joined Matt Drzik on the March 9 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about this year’s festival, as well as the programs and education that are benefited through the Maple Syrup Festival’s proceeds.

The 2018 Maple Syrup Festival is set for April 7 and 8 at the Brady’s Run Lodge in Fallston.

Riverside School Board Members Vote Unanimously On Armed School Officer

On Tuesday, March 6, the Riverside School Board, in their public agenda meeting held at the Middle School Library, voted unanimously to hire John Ludwig as an armed officer to patrol the Riverside School District. The school also voted to pay Ludwig $20 per hour upon his hiring. The move to approve was declared by school board president Shawn Plassmeyer and then agreed upon in this announcement:

The Beaver River Is Rising: What Does It Mean?

The rising waters along the Beaver River has created concerns with the citizens in river-based towns such as Rochester, Ambridge, and Monaca. So what does the level of the water mean for the citizens of Beaver County? Well, Lee Hendricks from the National Weather Service spoke with Beaver County Radio about the situation, and he says that water levels might decrease rather slowly…

“Free Food Friday” With Rachel From Al’s Corner!

It was getting to be lunchtime, and the staff at Beaver County Radio was getting a little hungry. Thankfully, they were saved by a stop by Rachel McGreal from Al’s Corner in Koppel, located on the corner of Route 18 and Route 351 in Koppel.

Rachel brought in an assortment of good food for the Beaver County Radio on-air staff, including fish sandwiches, sweet sausage sandwiches, pizza, and homemade macaroni and cheese. Rachel also mentioned the different types of food specials that Al’s has daily, as well as the well-known fountain drink special they’ve carried for years.
