AUDIO: New Brady’s Run Development, County Auction Among Subjects At Commissioners’ Work Section

In contrast to prior weeks, the weekly work session for the Beaver County Commissioners at the Beaver County Courthouse was quite lengthy, clocking in around 30-35 minutes.

The first half of the meeting was devoted to the announcement of a new development plan in Brady’s Run, and Tim Ishman, the Beaver County Director of Parks & Recreation, spoke about the purpose of the new development:

 

Furthermore, the new plan would also give renovation to the recycling center at Brady’s Run, a necessity spoken about by Holly Vogt, the director of the Beaver County Department of Waste Management:

 

The commissioners agreed to further pursuit of this new development project.

During the second half of the meeting, a number of subjects were further discussed, including the pending countywide auction on unused property, of which Assistant Solicitor Nate Morgan had an update:

 

The commissioners then went into executive session following the public work session.

Beaver Falls Prayer Breakfast To Be Held May 3 At Geneva College

In conjunction with the National Day of Prayer that will be celebrated across America, the city of Beaver Falls will be hosting their 25th Annual Prayer Breakfast on May 3 at 7:30 at the Alexander Dining Hall. The theme of this year’s ceremony is “American Unity”.

Geneva president Dr. Calvin Troup, and prayer breakfast committee members Reverend Phil Huggins (First Baptist Church in Rochester) and Deborah Niehenke joined Matt Drzik to discuss the annual event on the April 24 edition of A.M. Beaver County. The trio discussed the passion and time dedicated to putting the event together, and Dr. Troup (who will be this year’s guest speaker) spoke about the importance of prayer in a time of crisis and confusion in America.

There will also be a follow-up service at the Beaver United Methodist Church at noon on May 3.

The 32nd Annual Radio Rotary Auction is Saturday, April 21 on Beaver County Radio, and it will be heard live from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The auction features many different items like gift cards, prizes, and collectibles.

Dan & Don Flick, who represent Flick Financial and themselves are Rotarians, joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County on Tuesday, April 17 to discuss the process of bidding on these items and how winners will be notified.

Auction Week 2018: Dr. Paul Caton Talks 2018 Radio Rotary Auction

The 2018 Beaver County Radio Rotary Auction is set to go off at 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 21 on WBVP & WMBA. Dr. Paul Caton, of Caton Chiropractic in Patterson Township, is a main organizer of this event and is usually heard along with the co-hosts on Saturday, announcing the latest products and bids throughout the morning.

But on Monday, April 16, he was heard along with Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County, as the two discussed this year’s list of donators and donations; a tabloid of which can be found by going to bfwater.net.

“Chocolate Sunday” Benefit For McGuire Memorial Taking Place April 15

The McGuire Memorial Foundation is hosting “Chocolate Sunday”, a local event showcasing local vendors and their sweet treats, at Seven Oaks Country Club in Brighton Township on Sunday, April 15 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Mary Wood and Vivian Mahli, two of the event’s coordinators, joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss this year’s event, now in its 17th year. They explained the way patrons can buy tickets, how they will sample each vendor’s chocolate, and the beneficiaries of the proceeds from this event.

Vietnam Veterans Honored At Beaver County Courthouse

It’s been 50 years since the beginning of the Vietnam War, and the living veterans in the Beaver County area were honored at a ceremony that took place at the Beaver County Courthouse on Tuesday, March 27.

The ceremony was attended by many different Pennsylvania politicians, including County Commissioners Dan Camp and Tony Amadio, Sheriff Tony Guy, District Attorney David Lozier, Congressman Keith Rothfus, and Senator Pat Toomey, who spoke at length about the honor of recognizing the veterans and the fact that America needs more work on treating them properly.

After the ceremony, Senator Toomey spoke with Beaver County Radio’s Matt Drzik about the importance of the event:

 

Drzik also spoke with Congressman Rothfus, who echoed Toomey’s earlier comments during the ceremony about taking better care of our veterans:

 

The official celebration of Vietnam Veteran’s Day is on March 29.

Community Outreach For Homeless Focus Of Beaver Falls Watch Meeting

At the Second Baptist Church in Beaver Falls, the monthly neighborhood watch

Dina Ciabattoni (left) and Jaime Kinkead were the guest speakers at Monday night’s meeting.

meeting was anchored by two guests who spoke about the Community Outreach Program designed to combat homelessness and houselessness in Beaver Falls.

One of the speakers was Dina Ciabattoni, the Continuum Of Care Coordinator in Beaver County, who started the night by explaining “Outreach” in a nutshell:

 

The other guest speaker was Jaime Kinkead, a director with the Salvation Army in Beaver County. She spoke of what the process to house and care for the homeless taken in was:

 

The session then went into a Q&A session that turned out to be the majority of the meeting. One of the subjects asked about was the idea of what kids go through when dealing with homelessness, and Dina responded as such:

 

When the questions concluded, Jaime gave the attendees a final plea for action:

 

The next Community Watch Meeting in Beaver Falls is on April 30.

AUDIO: Mascaro Construction Academy, Donation Official At CCBC

Back on February 20, the Community College of Beaver County announced that they had received, among other contributions, a $500,000 donation from Mascaro Construction in order to create the Mascaro Construction Academy, a deal that has been made official according to a press release that came through Friday morning. Beaver County Radio spoke with Kolton Codner, the Executive Director of Advancement & Sponsored Programs at CCBC, about the purpose of this new Construction Academy:

 

Codner also informed Beaver County Radio about when the Academy will launch for high school and college students:

 

The donation comes in with conjunction with Shell Pennsylvania’s $1 million donation to the college made on February 20.

AUDIO: Warfield Is Officially Named Quip Head Coach, Emphasizes Responsibility

At Wednesday night’s meeting, the Aliquippa School Board officially announced former Aliquippa quarterback Mike Warfield as the new head coach for the football team, starting in 2018.

Warfield spoke with Beaver County Radio about what he plans to do different with the student athletes at his helm:

LISTEN: Flag Plaza Gets Donation From PUSH Beaver County For New Flags

The flags flying high above Rochester and the Beaver River will soon have a newer sheen to them.

PUSH Beaver County announced late Monday that they have made a $4,000 donation to the local chapter of “Flags Across America” to upgrade the current American Flags being flown from Rochester. PUSH Vice President Nathan Kopsack spoke to Beaver County Radio about the reasoning behind making the donation:
