There are still about 15-hundred Duquesne Light customers without power across Beaver County this morning after high winds moved through the region last night. Some of the hardest hit areas are Bridgewater in Beaver County and Bell Acres in Allegheny County. Most of the Duquesne Light outages are in Sewickley (1,157). Spokeswoman Jessica Rock tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that they expect power will be totally restored to the region by 6:00 tonight.

Monaca Names Piuri Police Chief
Monaca’s acting police chief Dave Piuri was promoted to chief at council’s meeting earlier this week, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Piuri was named acting chief following Bill Petures’s retirement . Petures is now working at the Beaver County Emergency Services Center as deputy director of the EMA. Chief Piuri and borough manager Mario Leone were unavailable for comment.
Hopewell Area School Board Member Resigns
Hopewell School Board accepted the resignation of board member Daria Minton at Monday night’s meeting, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Ms. Minton moved out of the district. Ms. Minton was appointed to the board and her term would expire at the end of 2017.Martin Byrnes, high school soccer coach resigned effective yesterday. Spelling bees for fourth graders were held at the district’s 3 elementary schools and the winners will compete in the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee at Robert Morris University on Saturday, March 11. Hopewell Elementary winner is Jenna Willy, Independence Elementary, Kristen Albertini, Margaret Ross Elementary, Emily Peroni.
New Plants To Be Built In Midland To Supply Concrete For Shell Cracker Plant
TWO PLANTS WILL BE BUILT IN MIDLAND TO SUPPLY THE CONCRETE NEEDED TO BUILD SHELL CHEMICALS’ ETHANE CRACKER PLANT IN POTTER TOWNSHIP. THE FACILITIES WILL BE LOCATED OFF 12TH STREET IN AN INDUSTRIAL PARK NEAR THE OHIO RIVER…AND WILL EMPLOY ABOUT 45 PEOPLE. TRUCKS FROM THE PLANT WILL TRAVEL ALONG ROUTE 68 AND INTERSTATE 376 BEFORE EXITING ON ROUTE 18 TO REACH THE CRACKER PLANT. SHELL OFFICIALS EXPECT ABOUT 300 TRUCK TRIPS DAILY FROM THE PLANT TO THE CRACKER SITE DURING PEAK CONSTRUCTION.
Beaver County Commissioners’ Work Session Cancelled
The Beaver County Board of Commissioners’ regularly scheduled Wednesday work session was cancelled for today. No reason for the cancellation was given. The commissioners are expected to appear during our “Ask the Commissioners” segment during Teleforum on Beaver County Radio during the 9:00 hour Thursday morning. Guest host Frank Sparks will ask questions of the commissioners and will also take questions from listeners who call in to the show during this time.
Beaver County Motorists Complain About Littered Roadsides
Litter on state roadsides in several county towns is evident with the coming of spring. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, local police that were contacted said that the task is up to PennDOT. A PennDOT spokesperson contacted yesterday said the state road cleanups are seasonal. Several listeners who called in to Teleforum on Beaver County Radio complained to guest show host Frank Sparks about the littered roadsides.
State Street Elementary School In Baden To Commemorate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday
State St. Elementary School in Baden, is commemorating Dr. Seuss’s birthday tomorrow, as are other districts in the county. Kim Roppa, ACADEMIC BEHAVIOR COACH said yesterday that children and staff may come to school as Dr. Seuss characters . According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, prizes for dress and trivia will be featured, Ms. Roppa said. DROP EVERYTHING AND READ will be for 15 minutes for the entire school she said. STAR behavior award winners received prizes last week a 6th grader won a $25 gift card to Target,the 2nd place winner won a gift card for Subway for the student and a friend .A second grader won 3rd prize, a Sheetz gift card. A district bus driver who identified winners won a Sheetz gift card, also.

New Emergency Operations Plan Approved For Hopewell Township
Hopewell Twp. Board of Commissioners last night adopted a resolution approving Hopewell Township’s Emergency Operations Plan for minimization of injury and damage in the event of a major emergency or disaster. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that a home destroyed by fire last year will be demolished, according to township code and zoning officer John Bates. Bates also told the commissioners addresses must be on all all structures in the township according to ordinance 96-12. the zoning officer addressed the issue of trash and recyclables being put out too early. Tight fitting lids must be on all containers for pickup, no earlier than 12 hours before, he said. Police Chief Brian Uhrmacher told the commissioners that his department was invited to Margaret Ross and Hopewell Elementary Schools for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day held recently. Commissioner’s chairman Rich Bufalini reminds residents to check the township website for updates .He added the planning commission will meet on Thursday March 16.
Testimony In Kelly Murder Re-Trial Set To Resume Today
Testimony will resume today in a Beaver County murder re-trail. Marlin “Twin” Kelly is accused in the 2012 shooting death of Conekeia Lynn “Coco” Finney and her unborn daughter in Ambridge. He was convicted of her death in 2014 but was granted a new trail last year.
