The New Brighton Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross for the 2025 Sound the Alarm event, offering free smoke detectors and installation to local residents.  Red Cross volunteers and members of the Fire Department will be installing smoke detectors on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Hookstown Grade Road Slide Repair Work Starts Monday

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing slide remediation work on a portion of Hookstown Grade Road (Route 3075) in Findlay Township, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, April 7 weather permitting.

A portion of Hookstown Grade Road between Fedex Drive and Montour Run Road will close to traffic beginning at approximately noon on Monday continuously through Friday, April 18 to allow crews to conduct slide remediation work. Traffic will be detoured via Montour Run Road, Beaver Grade Road, and Ewing Road.

Please use caution when traveling in this area.

PennDOT crews will conduct the slide repair and shoulder reconstruction work.

Connect Beaver County’s Broadband Program is mostly complete and progress continues on the program

(Beaver County, PA) Beaver County Commissioner Jack Manning explained on Beaver County Radio’s Ask the Commissioners on Thursday about how the Connect Beaver County Broadband Program provides connection availability to homes. Manning confirmed that the affordability tab on connectbeavercounty.com will have options for services and which homes have services. Manning also related that the process of the program is mostly complete, but not there yet. A traffic light in Baden will not be in service for a temporary period

(Baden, PA) The Beaver Valley Regional Police Department issued an alert Thursday that in Baden the traffic light for both Harmony Road and State Street will not be in service for a temporary period. This is due to a car accident that happened recently. The location will serve as a three-way stop until repairs are fixed on the traffic light.

Some students from the Hopewell FCCLA chapter become award winners in Seven Springs

(Seven Springs, PA) Some students of the Hopewell FCCLA chapter have won awards. According to a release from the Hopewell Area School District, the state leadership conference was held recently in Seven Springs. Senior McKenzie Brown won a gold medal in the repurposed and redesigned event. Senior Maggie Egenlauf won a gold medal in the Food innovations event. She also was awarded a $500 scholarship to attend IUP. She will represent Pennsylvania this summer at the national conference in Orlando, Florida. Sophomores Chris Nguyen and Ella Zimmerman won gold medals in the National Programs in Action event. The pair will also attend the national conference in Florida this summer, according to Principal Dr. Robert Kartychak. Esther Aloia is the FCCLA sponsor at Hopewell High School.

Central Valley School District conducting interviews for two assistant principal positions and a business manager

(Center Township, PA) The Central Valley School District is conducting interviews for three positions. The district announced on Thursday that they are conducting interviews for assistant principals for both the high school and the middle school. According to a district spokesperson, a business manager will also be hired. Kayse Hicks is also the district’s new curriculum director who worked at the district’s middle school. The board’s monthly work session is on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 at 7 p.m. The regular meeting is on Thursday, April 17th, 2025 at 7 p.m.

 

Simulated Emergency test will be performed by amateur radio operators of Beaver County

(Beaver County, PA) On Saturday, April 5th from 9:30 A.M. to noon, a Simulated Emergency Test will be performed by amateur operators of radio in Beaver County. The purpose of this test is to give tests to equipment and make skills better if the Beaver County EMA calls. These people will have a scenario to communicate on repeater systems for preparation. The public can listen to the test if they have a scanner and scan to 147.135 Mhz. 

 

Man is apprehended in Coraopolis for possessing drugs and a weapon

(Coraopolis, PA) A search warrant in Coraopolis was accomplished by police and a man was apprehended on Thursday after possessing drugs and a weapon. Police confirmed that the suspect, Jeffery West, possessed crack cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, heroin and a ghost gun that was loaded. Police went to the house of West on the 1700 block of Vance Avenue and found the items in his bedroom. West is currently in the Allegheny County Jail and is being held there.

The Heritage Valley Kennedy Hospital will close soon

(Moon Township, PA) The Heritage Valley Kennedy Hospital will close soon. On June 30th, 2025, services will still be at the locations for Heritage Valley in Beaver and Sewickley. According to a release from the Heritage Valley Health System, the emergency department, outpatient surgery, specialty diagnostic services, pulmonary rehabilitation and two health units will close. 

 

 

811 needs to be contacted before digging projects during National Safe Digging Month this April

(Pittsburgh, PA) April is National Safe Digging Month, and People’s Natural Gas is urging Pennsylvanians to call 811 before embarking on any digging projects. The law provides for 811 to be called for scenarios including construction, excavation, and tree planting. According to a release from People’s Natural Gas, 811 must be called three days early, utility workers must set locations, and utility companies must be notified if damage occurs.
