VIDEO: New Brighton To Hold Drive-Thru Easter Egg “Hunt” On April 16

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

The Easter Bunny has had to come up with new ways to hide its eggs over the course over the last couple years, but that won’t stop the Easter celebration in New Brighton on April 16.

The New Brighton Borough, with the cooperation of Fischer’s New Brighton Foodland, will be holding a drive-thru Easter Egg Hunt on April 16 from 11 AM until 1 PM at the store located on 415 9th Street. Valerie McElvy from We’re At Your Service joined Matt Drzik on the April 7 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about the event, which she hopes will put a smile on the face of everyone who attends.

According to McElvy, this is the third such year that the traditional egg hunt has taken the “drive-thru” route, and it has proven to have become a successful event for the Easter season. She also stated that while there is no limitation on the amount of bags per family, she wants families to be honest as they need only to make one trip through the line. New Brighton Police will be assisting with traffic throughout the event.

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“It’s a pretty easy walk, so everybody should have a good time.”

Dennis Garrett, from the Knights Of Columbus Council #604, spoke those words in regards to the upcoming “Hike 4 Kidz” event to take place on April 30. Garrett, along with Korin McMillan from St. Anthony’s Schools, Allison Dixon from McGuire Memorial, and Stephen Cantanzarite from Saint Monica Catholic Academy joined Matt Drzik on the April 5 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about the hike, which benefits the aforementioned organizations.

The hike will take place along a 2.5-mile stretch of the North Country Trail along the Little Beaver Creek east of Enon Valley in Lawrence County. However, hikers have the option to walk the stretch for increments of 5, 7.5, or 10 miles if they so choose. Hikers participating will gather at the Enon Valley Community Pavilion between 8 AM and 10 AM on April 30, and the event will happen regardless of the weather that morning.

Council #604 is seeking hikers for the event, but they are also seeking pledge sponsors for the event as well. Two parishes within the council area–the aforementioned Saint Monica in Chippewa as well as sister parish St. Blais in Midland–are competing to see which parish can raise the most funds for the trio of charities. “The Entrepreneur Life” Premieres April 2 At 10:30 On Beaver County Radio

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

What does it mean to be an entrepreneur?
What does it take to be an entrepreneur?

Beaver County Radio’s newest show sets to answer those questions and much more, as “The Entrepreneur Life” hits the airwaves on Saturday, April 2, at 10:30 AM. The show will be co-hosted by realtor/podcaster Eric McKenna along with attorney/author Rocco Cozza, and it will be livestreamed on BCR’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

McKenna spoke about the new show with Matt Drzik on the April 1 edition of A.M. Beaver County, expressing the level of collaboration with Cozza that fuels the backbone of what “The Entrepreneur Life” will be about. “The conversations got really deep, really good, and really spurred on the idea of sharing experiences through creativity,” McKenna said. “The conversations got so good, and the podcasts got so good between us, that we thought that there was an opportunity to engage this type of conversation. And we don’t think there’s a lot of conversation about entrepreneurship and what it takes.”

So what certain qualities does it take to be an entrepreneur? “I think all entrepreneurs have a streak of independence in them,” McKenna stated. “Also I think most entrepreneurs have a good level of creativity in their unique field or within their unique idea that they want to take to market.” He also added that anyone can be an entrepreneur if they are prepared: “The entry to entrepreneurship is open to everybody; there just is some really significant conversations one needs to have with themselves to make sure this is a prudent decision for them.”

VIDEO: Conservation District To Hold Tire Collection Events This Weekend

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

Flowers bloom in the Spring, but another creature begins to blossom as well…and it’s not looked forward to in the same light.

That creature is the mosquito, the pest-y bug known for being the main transporter of West Nile Virus. The Beaver County Conservation District has a Mosquito Vector Disease Program that studies the insect for its disease transmission, and the Program is hosting a Tire Collection Event on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2. The event will be held at the Conservation District headquarters located at 156 Cowpath Road in Aliquippa.

Phoebe Prince and Heather Humbert from the BCCD joined Matt Drzik on the March 30 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about the Tire Collection Event, which is designed for Beaver County residents to help themselves ditch the old tires in lieu of mosquito breeding season. Prince, the BCCD’s West Nile Technician, said that water buildup in any capacity on your property can become a “hot spot” for mosquitoes to lay hundreds of eggs to hatch within weeks. She and Humbert–the BCCD’s Environmental Educator–spoke about the many ways in which humans can prepare themselves for repelling and preventing mosquitoes in their lives, and the good products that will be converted from the tires donated to the BCCD.
