VIDEO: Feasibility Study Next Step For Tigerland Wave Pool Process

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“Just be patient, cause this is a process.”

Tyrone Zeigler said those words to Matt Drzik during the March 29 edition of A.M. Beaver County, and the “process” in this case is the process of Tigerland Wave Pool becoming a reality–a reality that has reached the stage of achieving a feasibility study. The study will be conducted by the Aquatic Facility Design group, and a public meeting will be held Thursday for the public to provide input.

Zeigler showcased a cautious optimism about the current status of the Tigerland Wave Pool, stating that there is “a lot of stuff going on right now” as the process continues. One of the main hopes for Tigerland LLC is to gain control of the property where the old pool was located (near Wallace Run Road), and to start making improvements on that as soon as control is gained. Zeigler said that there will most likely not be a pool for the summer of 2022, but that he will not give up on this personal quest to give back and better the city in which he grew up.

“Just continue to believe in me,” Zeigler said. “This process allows the kids and the youth to have something to do during the summer, so that they don’t ‘run the streets’ like I used to.”

VIDEO: Discussing Lent With Pastor Andy Russell From New Galilee Church Of The Nazarene

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“[It’s] the fact that Lent is more of a tradition than a way of life.”

Pastor Andy Russell, who is the pastor at the New Galilee Church of The Nazarene, spoke those words to Matt Drzik on the March 28 edition of A.M. Beaver County in regards to why people who celebrate Lent tend not to keep up with the practice after the Easter holiday. Russell has been the pastor of the church in New Galilee for roughly three years.

Russell talked extensively during the conversation about the idea of letting God take control of the church as opposed to a more man-made traditional church experience: “I’m not the Creator, and I’m not the one to create that atmosphere,” he said. “I want the presence of God. I don’t want to have a simulated emotion from my people.” Pastor Russell also talked about the idea of committing to actions for the sake of spirituality and not for clout, referencing the gospel passage of Matthew 6.

Services from the New Galilee Church of The Nazarene can be heard every Sunday at 12 Noon on Beaver County Radio. The church itself is located at 505 Washington Avenue in New Galilee, and they can be found on Facebook.

VIDEO: Enrollment Seminars For MITCS To Be Held On March 31

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“What exactly is the Midland Innovation & Technology Charter School? Why should I go there versus the school I go to now?”

These questions and others are to be addressed and answered as the Midland Innovation & Technology Charter School will be holding a seminar regarding the upcoming school year on March 31. There will be two sessions: one at 5:30 and one at 7:30, and they will be held at The Willows in Industry.

The CEO of MITCS, Dr. Chester Thompson, spoke about the upcoming sessions with Matt Drzik on the March 25 edition of A.M. Beaver County. Thompson knows that much of the curiosity and concern regarding MITCS revolves around how wildly and newly different of a school it is compared to charter schools of the past. “The Midland Innovation & Technology Charter School is a paradigm shift,” he said. He spoke of the opportunities being offered by the MITCS in fields such as forensic sciences, eSports, and construction that offer possibilities for high-school students that have never been offered before.

Thompson also acknowledged that classes at the MITCS will maintain a strong connection with Beaver County and nearby local universities. He acknowledged that Robert Morris, Slippery Rock and Duquesne Universities will all be lending their hands and expertise to the new classes being offered at the MITCS, and acknowledges the importance of connecting students to the communities in Beaver County and the Pittsburgh area for current education and future employment endeavors.

VIDEO: BCTA Introduces Mobile Ticketing To Their Series Of Digital Upgrades

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

The bus rides on the Beaver County Transit Authority are getting a new look as Spring approaches.

On March 1, the BCTA launched their mobile ticketing app, which allows riders to place their tickets and pay for their rides from the convenience of their phone or other mobile device. Mary Jo Morandini and Toni Sadecky joined Matt Drzik on the March 24 edition of A.M. Beaver County to discuss the new addition to the ongoing digital revitalization of the BCTA system.

The new app will be cash-free, and riders will be able to scan with their phone to get access to their rides in between Chippewa and Pittsburgh and all throughout Beaver County. Payment by cash is still an available option for riders, but–according to Morandini–70% of regular riders with the BCTA have joined the mobile app in the course of the last 3 1/2 weeks.

Sadecky and Morandini also made note of the upgrades done to the tracking systems available by phone and mobile device. Riders can now locate their exact bus in real time, knowing where and when they will (and won’t) stop on a given day, and whether or not there will be delays or slow-downs due to inclement weather or other reasons. Those who use BCTA will also be able to plan their trips in advance using the mobile app or at the BCTA website.

VIDEO: Beaver Valley Choral Society Presents Shows For Lent & Spring Seasons

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

The season of Lent is approaching its zenith, but the sounds throughout Beaver County will continue to flow into the depths of the spring season.

Sharon Burchill (artistic director/conductor) and Lee Pfiefer (president) from the Beaver Valley Choral Society joined Matt Drzik on the March 23 edition of A.M. Beaver County to discuss the upcoming series of Lenten performances entitled “Depths Of Mercy”. The show was originally set to be the BVCS’ performances for Lent in 2020, but were cancelled in light of certain events. The return to this music for the BVCS singers and orchestra players parallels the message in their selections; a period of darkness and confusion that leads to resurrection and celebration of a world anew.

The shows listed will be free to the public and will begin at 4:00 PM (unless noted):

  • April 2 at New Brighton United Methodist Church
  • April 3 at St. Cecelia Parish in Rochester
  • April 9 at Chippewa United Methodist Church (2:30 start)
  • April 10 at Sts. Peter And Paul Parish in Beaver

On top of that, the BVCS will also be presenting an additional show on May 22 entitled “Music Of Song And Stage” to be presented at the Rochester Area High School at 5 PM. The show–featuring secular songs as opposed to the usual spiritual songs–will feature selections from Disney, West Side Story, and the perennial “Moon River” written by Aliquippa native Henry Mancini. The BVCS will also welcome any new faces that are considering joining following the Lenten performances if they want to be a part of the show themselves.
