It’s official: Beaver County now has a presence on social media…with county-supervised accounts both on Facebook and Twitter. Commissioners Chief of Staff Joe Weidner tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that he will personally moderate and maintain the accounts. He says the accounts will be used as another way for officials to connect with residents and vice versa. On Facebook, the county page is at: Facebook.com/BeaverCtyPa. On Twitter, it is Twitter.com/BeaverCtyPa or @BeaverCtyPa. Both accounts went live early yesterday afternoon.

A Rochester man is facing charges after allegedly leaving his grandmother on a toilet for about 17 hours. According to police, 30-year-old Joshua Ellison, is a designated caregiver and lives with his grandmother in Rochester. On January 4th, Ellison was scheduled to work for CARE@Beaver County Home Makers, but did not. When he came home in the afternoon, another employee was already at the house. The employee discovered the woman in the bathroom. Ellison said he tried to help her off of the toilet around 10 p.m. the previous night, but she refused. A police report was filed on March 14th and Ellison has been charged with neglect of a care-dependent person.

An 80-year-old Aliquppa man is accused of assaulting a high school basketball referee. According to police, the incident happened during a playoff game  between the Aliquippa and Lincoln Park on March 15th. Louis Rivetti allegedly “strong-armed a referee in the face.” However, it is unclear what prompted the alleged altercation. Rivetti claimed he didn’t do anything to the official, but police noticed his hand was bleeding at the scene. He is now facing a list of charges, including assaulting a sports official, attempted simple assault and disorderly conduct.

The Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA) is one of 29 agencies across the state that will receive compressed natural gas fueling stations. It’s all part of a public-private partnership administered by PennDOT. It’s a partnership that is being commended by democratic lawmakers in Harrisburg.

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are organizing in Pennsylvania as some Republican Party leaders are shifting their support in the contested primary. Pennsylvania’s April 26th primary is four weeks away, and voter registration is now closed with slightly over 4 million Democrats and slightly over 3 million Republicans. State figures show that Democrats raked in more new voters in 2016, but more voters switched their registrations to Republican. Pennsylvanians will weigh in on the Republican and Democratic primaries for president, and pick party nominees for Congress, state attorney general and state Legislature. Sanders and Clinton now have offices open in Pittsburgh, Scranton and Harrisburg.

UPMC has announced it will increase minimum starting salaries for entry-level employees to $15 per hour. The change will affect most of the Pittsburgh facilities, including UPMC Presbyterian, Shadyside Hospital and Magee-Women’s Hospital. The pay increase will go into effect by January of 2021. The health care giant says average service worker pay will exceed $15 by January 2019.
