Parade and Pep Rally Set For Saturday To Honor Aliquippa Quips As Champs

The 2016 PIAA State Basketball champs – the Aliquippa Quips – will be honored Saturday with a parade in the city. Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak and news correspondent Sandy Jordano that the line-up is at noon and the parade time is 1 p-m. He says they will then proceed to the high school gym for a pep rally assembly. Everyone is invited to attend.

Beaver County Human Service Workers Hold Another Informational Picket

Beaver County Human Services Workers held another informational picket today. This one was held at noon today in front of the county human services building on 8th Avenue in Beaver Falls. Members of S-E-I-U Local 668 have been working without a contract since June 30th, 2015. The union has warned the county of a one-day strike that is set for Tuesday. The strike would include about 190 employees who work in the County Office On Aging, Behavior Health and Children & Youth Services departments. The union has also filed an unfair labor practice complaint with the state labor relations board.

Hillary Clinton To Campaign In Pittsburgh Next Week

Hillary Clinton is coming to Pittsburgh, to campaign before the April 26th primary. On Wednesday, April 6th, Clinton will be in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. According to a news release, the former Secretary of State will “discuss her plans to break down the barriers that hold Americans back.” Additional details about the visit are forthcoming.

Man Found Dead In A Pittsburgh-Bound Megabus

A man has been found dead in the bathroom of a Megabus headed from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, and the driver says he had a needle stuck in his arm. The Centre Daily Times reports the bus made a stop in State College on Thursday. The bus driver says he opened the bathroom door and the 54-year-old Philadelphia man “fell out.”

Police Searching For Driver Responsible For Hit-And-Run With Teen Cyclist

Police In Center Township are searching for a driver who struck a 16-year-old bicyclist and fled the scene Tuesday evening. Center Township Police Chief Barry Kramer tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Chapel Road. He says the boy was taken by relatives to Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital for an apparent elbow injury. Chief Kramer says the teen’s injuries are not life-threatening. He says the boy told them he believes a dark or black subaru struck him. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call Center Police at (724) 774-0272.

Beaver County Emergency Services To be Impacted By County’s Buyout Offer

Beaver County Emergency Services Wes Hill tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that the loss of employees through the county’s buyout offer will impact the county’s emergency services department, but he says he doesn’t expect there to be any negative effect on services itself.  Monday is the deadline for county employees to take a buyout under the plan to save the county cash. Hill says so far, there are 11 employees in his department who might take the buyout.

Murder Trial Begins Today In Ellwood City

The trial for a man accused of a November 2013 murder in Ellwood City is scheduled to begin today. Judge J. Craig Cox will preside over the trial of 28-year-old Leon Platt of Rochester. Platt is accused in the murder of 26-year-old Richard Rogue of Enon Valley. The Lawrence County District Attorney’s office has expressed intentions to seek the death penalty if Platt is found guilty.

Bernie Sanders Holds Presidential Rally In Pittsburgh

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders continued his attacks on rival Hillary Clinton’s relationship with Wall Street at a Pittsburgh rally this morning. About 8, 500 mostly young people crowded into the David L. Lawrence Convention Center today for Sander’s first appearance in Western Pennsylvania. Sanders slammed Clinton for giving speeches on Wall Street. Clinton leads Sanders comfortably in polls of likely Pennsylvania voters. The Pennsylvania primary election is April 26.

Penguins Host The Predators

The Penguins host the Nashville Predators tonight at the Console Energy Center.  WBVP-WMBA air time is 6:30.  There was an Evgeni Malkin on Wednesday.  He skated on his own before practice. Coach Mike Sullivan says this does not change the prognosis of six to eight weeks on the shelf.  The Penguins named Bryan Rust as the teams rookie of the year.  He suffered an unspecified injury on Tuesday.  He will miss tonights game. For the first time since the 1969-70 season, there will be no Canadian teams in the upcoming playoffs
