The J.C. Penney store at the Beaver Valley Mall is not among the 138 Penney stores that are slated to close this summer, according to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti. The company plans to shutter stores nationwide, primarily in the South and Midwest. But the list of the department store chain – which was released on Friday – does not include any Western Pennsylvania locations.

Hopewell High School has 3 teams of  Seaperch  competition winners  heading to State competition  on April 8, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Swag Daddy ‘n’ Crew, Zach Showalter and Dakota Forest, best obstacle course, Turner Wilson and Noah Schultz, Engineering Notebook, , won the competition for best team. The Unites States Navy  came to the district and introduced he underwater robotics  program to the district last year. Bronwyn Zorchnak, chemistry teacher and gifted coordinator  is in charge of the program.  The junior high school pool is used for the practice and events, she said. If the students are winners at Cal U., they will compete for the national competition at Georgia Tech in May.Local U.s. Navy personnel assisted at the local event last week, Ms. Korchnak said.
