Theodore “Ted” J. Martin (1930-2025)
Theodore “Ted” J. Martin, 94, of Beaver, passed away on March 14th, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.
He was born in Pittsburgh on November 26th, 1930, a son of the late Charles and Marie (Davis) Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Barnes) Martin, his daughter, Linda Kopicko, two brothers, Charles and William Martin, his sister, Carroll Mihlfried and his daughter-in-law, Karen Andrasko.
He is survived by one son, William (Katrina) Andrasko of Nolensville, Tennessee, four daughters: Laurie (Gilbert) Villanueva of Pittsburgh, Marcie (David) Hough of Chesapeake, Virginia, Kellie (William) Disario of Cape Coral, Florida and Betsy (Douglas) Kopicko of Beaver; one son-in-law, John Kopicko of Bellevue, 12 grandchildren: John Scott (Susan) Kopicko, William (Lisa) Andrasko, Robert (Lauren) Kopicko, Jason (Kodi) Andrasko, Jaimie (Justin) Dzelzkalns, Sarah (Evan) Disario, Ada Villanueva, Andrew Disario, Evan Villanueva, Justin Kopicko, Ethan Kopicko and Rachel Kopicko; 9 great grandchildren, his sisters, Eleanor Martin, Jean Babowal and Lois Martin, as well as several nieces, nephews and their families.
Theodore was a proud graduate of North Catholic High School. He worked at Mellon Bank for 35 years, where he served as an operations manager, gaining respect for his professionalism, work ethic, and leadership. Outside of his professional life, he was an avid golfer who loved reading and crossword puzzles. He was also a lover of travel, finding great joy in his vacations to Hawaii and Picton, Ontario, where he spent many relaxing days with his wife and family, surrounded by the beauty of nature. His greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. He cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, offering wisdom, laughter, and endless love. His deep bond with his family was the cornerstone of his life. In his later years, he embraced technology with enthusiasm, becoming a technically savvy senior citizen. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, always eager to learn and grow, no matter his age.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, March 19th, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the J & J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Avenue, New Brighton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Theodore’s memory to Twelve Loaves Soup Kitchen, 1031 2nd Avenue, New Brighton, PA, 15066.
Gino “Pig Iron” DiNardo (1931-2025)
Gino DiNardo, 93, of West Aliquippa, affectionately known as ”Pig Iron” and “Unk,” passed away on March 13th, 2025.
He was born on July 4th, 1931, a son of the late Giovanni and Antoiniella (DiPietriantonio) DiNardo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Philomena DiNardo and Helen D. Sildra, two brothers, Constantine “Stundy” DiNardo and Daniel DiNardo, two nephews, Michael DiNardo and Daniel DiNardo and his beloved dog, Snowball.
He was a member of St. Titus Church of Aliquippa.
Gino served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a clarinet player in the band. Upon his discharge from the Army, he gained employment at J&L Steelworks as a pipefitter and retired after 50 years of service.
“Unk” was fond of gardening and maintained the tradition inherited from his father of replanting garlic and sharing it with his family and friends.
He is survived by his youngest sister, Yolanda D. Lucci, who wrote this wonderful memory about her brother. When Gino was a small boy, he had a small red wagon. He would walk around and pick up pieces of Pig Iron that fell from J&L trucks. These pieces he would sell back to J&L for a few pennies. Consequently, his friends nicknamed him Pig Iron. The name stayed with him all of his life.
Gino valued time with his family, including his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who survive him: Valerie Waldroff, Toni Ann (Steve) Turkall, Danielle (Danny) Bozic, Della Marie (Terry) Zona, Dr. John Alan Lucci, Dr. Edward B. Lucci, Joseph G. Lucci, John DiNardo and Nick DiNardo, as well as a great nephew and great niece, Ryan and Justine Turkall, who “Unk” enjoyed spending time with, including numerous other special great nieces and great nephews. Gino also had many special friends in “West” throughout his lifetime.
The family expresses their gratitude to the health care professionals who provided care to Gino over the years. These include retired podiatrist and dear friends: Dr. Albert Nalli and Barbara Nalli, Dr. Scholleart, Nick Pertile CRNP, Dr. Sandhu, staff at Concordia Villa St. Joseph, Dr. Saleem and nurses August and Janine at Heritage Valley Beaver.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 17th from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Departing prayers will begin on Tuesday. March 18th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Titus Church, 952 Franklin Avenue, Aliquippa. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery and The Beaver County Special Unit will attend to present military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made if desired in memory of Gino to the Beaver County Humane Society or the Heart and Lung Association.

(Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) A statement was released on Friday by the parents of the last person to allegedly see Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student who has been missing in the Dominican Republic. The parents of twenty-two-year-old Joshua Riibe are hoping that Konanki gets found and that their son has cooperated completely with clarifying facts as well as the search for her. Konanki was in Punta Cana with a group of several people before she went missing.
Koppel Borough man apprehended for disturbing notes with threats towards unidentified female victim

(Beaver County, PA) A man from Koppel Borough was arrested after making disturbing notes to an unidentified female victim. Nineteen-year-old Dylan Bish was the suspect who wrote a note that was brought to police by the victim which involved a phone number on it in November. A second note was found which involved threats to kill her and threats of harassment because of his obsession with her in February. Bish has a $1 million bond and is now in the Beaver County Jail.
Woman from Zanesville, Ohio causes single-vehicle crash on I-376 East

(Brighton Township, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver report that a woman from Zanesville, Ohio caused a single-vehicle crash in Brighton Township last Monday. Twenty-one-year-old Alexandra Wright hit the guide wire on the left of the road with her vehicle on I-376 East. Wright was transported privately after the incident occurred and sustained no injuries. No charges were filed against Wright.
Man from Beaver crashes his motorcycle on I-376 East

(Potter Township, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver report that a man from Beaver crashed his motorcycle on I-376 East on Tuesday. Thirty-eight-year-old Stephen Zak’s motorcycle wobbled after he got into the left lane when passing another vehicle. A concrete barrier was hit by Zak before he stopped. According to police, Zak was transported to the Beaver Valley Medical Center for a suspected serious injury and no charges were filed against him.
Man from Aliquippa arrested for not restraining his dog

(Shippingport Borough, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver report that a man from Aliquippa was arrested on Friday for not restraining his dog after it attacked a dog owned by his neighbor multiple times. Fifty-nine-year-old Kevin Meredith of East Liverpool, Ohio complained that the Pitbull of thirty-one-year-old Tyler Tharp did not get restrained. According to police, Tharp was given a notice to comply because of improper confinement and control of the dog.

(Monaca, PA) Shell Polymers Monaca will be performing activity for maintenance in their Ethylene Cracking Unit after flares and emission occurred on both Thursday and Friday. There was no immediate threat to the surrounding community, neighbors in the industry or those that were operating onsite. Identity released of man who died after a brush fire occurred in Beaver County

(New Sewickley Township, PA) According to a release from The New Sewickley Township Police Department, the identity was released for a deceased man that was killed after a brush fire occurred in Beaver County on Thursday. The identity of the man was released by police. He was eighty-six-year-old Charles Flook of New Sewickley Township. The fire that was around one acre was able to be handled. The cause of death for Flook is not determined at this time.
