(New Castle, PA) Vitalant is holding several blood drives in Beaver and Lawrence Counties this August to help each patient that needs blood and to save their lives.

Anybody who uses the code AUGUST15-2026-V when they make an appointment to donate blood and donate in August, will receive a $15 gift card of their choice in Vitalant Donor Rewards.

Type O blood is needed the most despite the need for all blood types, because every two seconds, a patient in the United States needs a transfusion.

For 12-year-old Andrew, whose picture with his mother can be seen below, he needed a donation of blood. He hit his head while horsing around and woke up with a lump on his neck. After countless tests, a biopsy revealed Stage 3 B-cell lymphoma, even though everyone though it was from the fall.

Andrew faced intensive chemotherapy and he received three blood transfusions to survive.

He is cancer-free today, has returned to school, and is back to playing basketball.

Andrew’s mother, Marissa, said. “Every unit of blood is valuable. We’re so incredibly grateful to everyone who chooses to donate. It helped save Andrew’s life.”
