Representative Rothfus Offers Reflections on the 17th Annual Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

STOYSTOWN, Pa. – Representative Keith Rothfus (PA-12) issued the following statement commemorating the brave men and women lost in the September 11th terrorist attacks. The Congressman attended the September 11th Memorial Service, held at the Flight 93 National Memorial.

“For those of age, we will never forget the moments of that fateful morning of September 11, 2001,” said Congressman Rothfus. Our thoughts come flooding back to us: Crystal clear blue sky. How could a plane hit the World Trade Center?  The horrible reality set in as soon as the second plane hit. The Pentagon? Pennsylvania? Where in Pennsylvania? A young daughter, now a grown woman, asking me “Daddy, will they attack Pittsburgh?”

“United Flight 93 never reached the destination the terrorists had for it in Washington, D.C., as its heroic passengers and crew sacrificed their lives to thwart the attack. Now the windswept meadow in Western Pennsylvania serves as a memorial to these courageous Americans.

“Today let us remember where we were that day, how we held each other, how we spoke to each other, and let those memories remind us that despite our differences, we Americans share a common blessing: we live in the most amazing country the world has ever seen.

“May the good Lord bless those who were lost and injured and their families. May the good Lord bless the thousands of American service members lost in the Global War on Terror, and those injured in service, and all their families.

“Lord, help us as we struggle in the search for peace.”
