Rep. Keith Rothfus Applauds Grants Awarded to Local Coalitions to Prevent Youth Substance Abuse

WASHINGTON — Representative Keith Rothfus (PA-12) issued the following statement regarding recent federal grant announcements for the Offices of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Drug Free Communities (DFC) program. Two twelfth district community partners received annual grants, each equal to $125,000. One, a new grant provided to the Cambria County Drug Coalition, was facilitated by the Congressman’s letters of support.

“Countless families, neighbors, and communities have been hurt by the opioid crisis ravaging Western Pennsylvania. In 2016 alone, 4,627 Pennsylvanians died of opioid overdoses,” said Congressman Rothfus. “The money provided by ONDCP’s DFC Program grants will help our communities keep drugs out of the hands of our young people and prevent prescription drug abuse. I am glad to see two of our community programs, the BC-SCORES Coalition and the Cambria County Drug Coalition, Inc., receive this funding so that they can continue their critical work of restoring a safe, drug-free Western Pennsylvania.”
