(Hopewell, PA) September 8, 2024 is the 30th anniversary of a plane that crashed in Hopewell as those residents remember an event that shocked their community in 1994. The USAirFlight 427, a Boeing 737 plane, was reported by a resident flying too low and caused an explosion. Experts believed that a rudder malfunction happened before the plane came towards the Pittsburgh runway. The flight started in Chicago, headed to Palm Beach, Florida, along with stopping by in Pittsburgh for a layover. The accident killed 132 people, and their memorial resides in Sewickley Cemetery. As people that witnessed the Hopewell USAirFlight 427 crash will remember these tragic events on Sunday, the crash is still considered the deadliest air disaster in the history of Pennsylvania.
