More than 12,000 households and businesses are without power due to strong winds that have been sweeping the Beaver Valley today. Duquesne Light has reported about 7,000 of its customers are without power as downed trees on power lines have damaged the utility company’s equipment throughout Beaver and Allegheny counties. Penn Power reported about 5,700 of its customers are without power in Beaver County…as well as in Allegheny, Butler, Washington, Westmoreland and Armstrong. It’s unclear when power would be restored. Gusty winds are expected to continue throughout the day and more outages are possible. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory this morning, which is in effect until 8 p.m. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected. Meanwhile, fallen trees and downed power lines blocked many roadways during morning rush hour, including along Brodhead Road in Moon.
