Poll: Most Americans Aren’t Keen on Returning to Moon or Going To Mars

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Americans prefer a space program that focuses on tracking potential asteroid threats to Earth. That’s according to a poll released Thursday by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, one month before the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The results come as the White House pushes to return astronauts to the moon. But only about a quarter of Americans said exploration of the moon or Mars by astronauts should be among the country’s highest priorities.
