Police Arrest Person Who Broke Into the Pittsburgh Zoo Wednesday Evening

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) Someone breached the perimeter fence of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Wednesday night, March 16,2022 shortly before 8 PM.
According to a release sent out by the Zoo the suspect was apprehended a little after 8 p.m. and all animals, personnel, and property are safe.
Ian Hunter, Public Relations Manager for the zoo said in the release that the Zoo maintains a 24 hour security presence and became aware of the breach immediately. Police were notified and arrived quickly. In cooperation with Zoo security, the suspect was safely apprehended with no injuries occurred. A full sweep was conducted of the Zoo by security and animal care staff and all animals remain safe in their habitats. Zoo property remains undamaged.
Dr. Jeremy Goodman, President & CEO said in the release that “As part of our extensive safety protocols, the Zoo conducts regular drills for emergency situations to keep animals and guests safe. We responded quickly and we had the right people here to take action.
The Zoo intends to continue with standard operations on Thursday
