This is National School Breakfast Week, according to Nicole Holt, a member of the Nutrition Group that is in charge of food service in the Central Valley School District, Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports.  She said a competition  in all the elementary schools  to see which class has the most breakfast tickets  will win a pizza party.  She said the event counts for reimbursible lunches.  Aliquippa School District’s  food service director is  Mrs. Lou Ann Schmitt   and she shared information that Aliquippa Elementary School is having Wellness Day  tomorrow.  Each student can taste the carrot raisin salad.”   that is being prepared for the event, which  contains a grain..   She said they will receive a sticker for tasting the salad. Mrs. Schmitt  provides the school board with a monthly report that is presented at their regular meeting .  She said the group’s chef prepares a plan for the program , and she tweaks them to make the menus happen.  She has 22  cafeteria workers in the 2 schools.Amelia Fronzaglia has been making homemade pizza for the schools for many  years. She said the students really enjoy it..Ms. Holt said that Central Valley  they are offering  Smart Snack Ice Cream , which is calorie and sugar regulated  less calories, not full of fat.”, She said that  it has taken off tremendously.” She said they have a decent variety  of ala carte items, as does Aliquippa.  Ms. Holt said soft whole grain pretzels are offered , and a variety of baked and reduced fat snacks. At Hopewell Cassidy Hall said that menus are tailored for the area .  She said her staff meets with  the students, they are called “yak” meetings and they provide ideas on what to serve .  She said the youth advisory council is for grades k-12.
