(Beaver, PA) Several topics were discussed this morning during the Beaver County Commissioners’ work session at the County Courthouse. One of them was when Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Director Tony Caltury confirmed that an event will be taking place on August 7th, 8th and 9th hosted by that department. The National Blind Tennis Association was hosting an event in Austin, Texas and Caltury stated that “that event venue fell through.” As a result, a local facility was suggested to bring in participants from around the United States so that the National Blind Tennis Association can have a clinic on Friday evenings so the local population for the visually impaired to try activities like tennis. During the solictiors’ report, Beaver County Solicitor Garen Fedeles provided some updates. The first one was that a check of $241,000 was received for a 457 plan, and the individuals that are enrolled in that plan will be eventually getting the checks deposited to them. In terms of the County’s Emergency Services Unit and Drug Task Force teams, the Commissioners have been working on an agreement with some local communities. Some of them have approved it and others are in the process of approving agreements. A project was also presented for the project regarding the parking garage at the county courthouse which is closed at this time. Safety is also in question regarding the garage because a juvenile or juveniles were somehow able to get into the elevator of the garage on Monday evening. Commissioner Jack Manning also stated that he supports the Pennsylvania State’s Supreme Court ruling of “skill games” as illegal under the current state Crimes Code and Gaming Act and the state’s budget is approaching during the Commissioners’ report. Caltury also let the audience of the session know that a bunch of events are coming up in Beaver County, including the Beaver County Fitness Expo at the Brady’s Run Ice Arena on Saturday, as well as several America250 events that same day in Baden, Harmony Township, New Sewickley and Old Economy. Commissioner Manning also noted that there will be some events on Saturday for Juneteenth. The biggest event will be this year’s Beaver County Boom 250, which features live music on Bridge Street in Bridgewater along with the world-renowned Zambelli fireworks on Saturday, June 27th.
