Jimmy Carter Breaks Hip at Home, Undergoes Surgery

Former President Jimmy Carter fell and broke his hip Monday morning and underwent surgery to repair the fracture. The Carter Center said the 39th U.S. president was going out turkey hunting when he fell at his home. He was hospitalized and had surgery after it was discovered that he broke a hip. Carter, 94, was said to be “recovering comfortably” at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Carter and his wife Rosalynn live in Plains, Georgia, roughly two-and-a-half hours south of Atlanta. The Carter Center said the former president was disappointed to suffer a broken bone just as  he was preparing to leave his home for a turkey-hunting trip during the last week of the season.
