Hundreds Of UPMC Patients In New Castle Warned Of Possible Risk From Improperly Cleaned Equipment

Patients who recently underwent procedures that involved ultrasound probes at UPMC Jameson in New Castle have been notified about possible health risks from unclean equipment. Hospital officials say the probes used in internal prostate and gynecological exams were not being properly cleaned. The hospital called the risks “extremely low” but is offering each of the 211 patients that may be affected free precautionary testing.
