SEWICKLEY — “Young Washington,” exploring the formative experiences that shaped the United States’ first president into the historically revered leader, opens this Friday at theaters including The Lindsay Theater in Sewickley.

“Young Washington” director Jon Erwin made “a well-crafted but accessible biopic,” praises RogerEbert.com. “It’s a solid piece of storytelling that respects its audience. We can always use more of those.”

We’ll find out how it fares against the world’s current No. 1 movie,  “The Odyssey,“ director Christopher Nolan’s epic take on a Greek general’s perilous journey home following his Trojan War victory.

Josh Axelrod, the Lindsay’s communications director, appeared Wednesday on The Beaver County Radio Morning Show, discussing “Young Washington,” “The Odyssey,“ and the surefire blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which gets a special preview screening on July 30 at The Lindsay before opening wide July 31.
