SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — A spokesman for David Ortiz says the former Boston Red Sox slugger is in stable condition in intensive care as he recovers from a shooting at a bar in his native Dominican Republic. The spokesman says that doctors removed Ortiz’s gallbladder and part of his intestine, and that his liver was also damaged. He says Ortiz will be flown to Boston once his condition improves. The shooting suspect is in custody. Authorities will try to determine whether Ortiz was the intended target.
