Child dies after being struck by vehicle in Rochester; suspected driver in custody

(Rochester, PA) A child died after being struck by a vehicle on Friday in Rochester, according to Beaver County emergency officials.

Dispatchers said emergency crews were called to the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Lacock Street at approximately 4:50 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Sources told WPXI that the victim, believed to be between 10 and 12 years old, was riding a bicycle at the time of the incident. Authorities said the driver did not remain at the scene.

In a statement posted to Facebook Saturday morning, the Rochester Police Department said the suspected vehicle has been located and a suspect is in custody at the Beaver County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Police said no additional information will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
