(Pittsburgh, PA) Allegheny Health Network’s Division of Prehospital Care Services unveiled the first of four new Airbus H145 D3 medical transport helicopters Friday as part of a $55 million investment to modernize the network’s LifeFlight fleet.

The new helicopters are intended to improve critical-care air transport services across western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas served by AHN.

The first H145 D3 is now operational and is expected to enter service later this month. AHN said it will be the first medical transport aircraft of its kind in Pennsylvania.

Three additional H145 D3 helicopters are expected to join the LifeFlight fleet over the next several years.
