Several Battles Between Valley Teams For Week 1 High School Football Action

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

Though there are no section games throughout the Beaver Valley–in fact, there’s only one in the WPIAL at all–the close proximity of the opponents in several games lays the groundwork for some hot matchups in Week 1 of High School Football.

Such a game takes place at Bulldog Stadium tonight, as Freedom will host Ambridge in a non-conference battle on 95.7 FM, 1460 WMBA and the Trib Live HSSN. Freedom enters tonight’s contest at 1-0 following their Week 0 victory over Quaker Valley, by a score of 24-12. The Bridgers are looking for their first win of the season after falling to Wheeling Central Catholic by a 24-7 margin last week. Mike Azadian & Bruce Frey have the call from Bulldog Stadium with pregame at 7:00 PM and kickoff at 7:30 PM.

On 99.3 FM, 1230 WBVP, Facebook Live and Trib Live tonight–Central Valley hosts Avonworth in a battle of undefeateds at Sarge Alberts Stadium. The Warriors are coming off of a 43-20 win over Trinity in Week 0, and the two-time defending state champions are looking for their 29th consecutive victory. The Antelopes are also coming off a victory last week, as they knocked off Grove City High by a 22-7 tally. Bob Barrickman and John Perrotto have the call from Center beginning with pregame at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

Pittsburgh West Virginia did not miss a step, the backyard brawl was everything you could want to see. Pitt won the toss and elected to kick off West Virginia Marched down the field but stalled out. Pitt then got the ball and were able to complete a few passes but the drive also stalled. So the teams battled back and fourth and went into the locker room tied 10-10. The second half both teams were able to move the ball up and down the field and they did not stop until a sliding caught was under review  for what seemed to be hours but it proved to be a drop by WVU at Pitts  one yard line with 22 ticks on the clock final score 38 – 31

(Pittsburgh. Pa.) The Backyard Brawl is ‘where the beast lives’ for Pitt, WVU
Tune into Beaver County Radio at tonight as  Pitt will host the West Virginia Mountaineers to renew one of college football’s oldest rivalries “The Backyard Brawl”. The series dates back to 1895 but went on a break in 2012 after both schools left the Big East for other conferences. Alumni on both sides have tried to impart the importance of the rivalry to a current crop of players that have no personal history against each other. Pitt linebacker SirVocea Dennis says getting up for the game shouldn’t be hard. Dennis said once he pulls on his Panther jersey, “whoever they say we don’t like, we don’t like.”

The pre-game starts at 5 PM and the game kicks-off at 7 PM on Beaver County Radio.
