PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored two goals and the Pittsburgh Penguins regained first place in the East Division with a 7-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Marcus Pettersson, Jake Guentzel, Jason Zucker, Mark Friedman and John Marino also scored goals while Tristan Jarry had 30 saves for the Penguins, who moved two points ahead of idle Washington. The Capitals have two games in hand over the Penguins with one week left in the regular season.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jake Guentzel scored his 22nd goal 2:11 into overtime to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals in a result that clinched both teams’ place in the playoffs. Guentzel’s winner on a one-time redirection of John Marino’s pass came after Washington’s Tom Wilson forced overtime with 14.3 seconds to play. The result, combined with the New York Islanders’ regulation win over the New York Rangers, ensures both teams will be among the Eastern Division’s four playoff teams.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin is nearing his return from a lower-body injury that’s kept him out since mid-March. Malkin skated alongside his teammates on Wednesday for the first time since being injured and will join Pittsburgh for a four-game road trip through Washington and Philadelphia. The Penguins have thrived in his absence, going 14-5-2 to move into second place in the East Division behind the Capitals.

Breaking News!! Mike Lange Returns To The Booth For Tonight’s Game As Getzoff Welcomes New Baby Boy

   Pittsburgh Penguins radio play-by-play broadcaster Josh Getzoff is pleased to announce that his wife, Maddie, gave birth to the couple’s first child.

 

Their son, Gunnar Hayes Getzoff, arrived early Monday morning, checking in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 inches. 

 

Penguins Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Mike Lange will return to the radio booth for the first time this season when the Pens host the Bruins at 7 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.

 

The 73-year-old Lange has missed most of the season while waiting his turn to get the COVID-19 vaccine. He is now fully vaccinated but recently underwent an unrelated medical procedure that further delayed his return.  While filling in for tonight’s game, Lange said, “I am not yet 100% but am happy to get back into the radio booth to help the team.”

 

Tuesday’s game will mark Lange’s 46th season with the Penguins. He and analyst Phil Bourque will call all the action on 1230 WBVP, 1460 WMBA, 99.3 FM and beavercountyradio.com and the Penguins Radio Network.

 

Getzoff is expected to be back on the radio call on Thursday, when the Penguins face the Capitals in Washington.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tristan Jarry made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and Jake Guentzel scored in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 1-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Sunday. Jarry has won his last four decisions, including a sloppy 7-6 home win against New Jersey last week, in which he allowed six third-period goals. He rebounded two nights later against the Devils and has earned a point in 11 of his last 12 starts. Guentzel scored his 21st at 4:03 of the third period to help the Penguins win their fourth straight.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust each scored their 20th goal of the season, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. Crosby got an empty-netter with 0.1 seconds to play. His goal came following a tense net-mouth scramble in which the Devils nearly tied the game. Crosby surpassed Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux for the most 20-plus goal seasons in franchise history. He’s the 36th player in NHL history to have 13 or more 20-plus goal seasons.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jeff Carter picked up his first goal in Pittsburgh as part of a first-period deluge as the Penguins held on for a 7-6 win over New Jersey. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist for Pittsburgh, which nearly let a six-goal lead slip away in the third period. The Devils scored six times in the third but couldn’t quite draw even. New Jersey has dropped seven straight games.
