WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has passed a $1.7 trillion bill to finance federal agencies through September, aid Ukraine and provide assistance to communities recovering from hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters. The bill passed by a vote of 68 to 29 and now goes to the House for action. Lawmakers are working to complete action on the bill before a partial government shutdown begins at midnight Friday. Supporters say the bill will boost national security with a 10% increase slated for defense programs, but detractors criticize the amount of overall spending with the country already facing a $31 trillion national debt.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Jan. 6 committee has released its final report on the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. It reveals new details about the mob assault by supporters of the defeated president, Donald Trump, that shook the nation and exposed the fragility of American democracy. The 814-page account provides a gripping narrative of Trump’s monthslong effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election. It spells out 11 recommendations for Congress and others to consider to bolster the nation’s institutions against any future attempts to incite insurrection. Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi writes that prior to Jan. 6, “it was unimaginable.”

(Aliquippa, PA) Aliquippa City Council adopted its 2023 budget Wednesday night, and it calls for no tax increase. The millage is 16.25 mills on buildings, and 86 mills on land, the total budget is $6,170,663.00.

(Pittsburgh, PA) Numerous flights have been delayed or canceled at Pittsburgh International Airport, resulting in many questioning whether they will make it to their Christmas Weekend desination or not. As of 6 a.m. this morning, at least 51 flights in and out of Pittsburgh have been cancelled.

PennDOT announced that speed limits are reduced on multiple roads this morning due to the winter storm.
The following roads have been reduced to 45 MPH:
Beaver Valley Expressway, I-79, I-376, and Route 422, Parkways East, West, and North, I-579, as well as Route 28
Commercial vehicles must move to the right lane, during these restrictions, PennDOT also urges motorists to avoid travel, if possible.

(Hopewell Township, PA) Hopewell Police Chief Don Sedlacek reported Thursday morning that his department is investigating the theft of high end hydraulic equipment from Station #1 on Brodhead Road.  The chief said the equipment is used for life saving  efforts when firefighters receive a call.

(Hopewell Township, PA) State Police in Beaver have released information regarding a two vehicle accident that occurred last Saturday on Interstate 376 near Hopewell. A trooper was speaking to the operator of a vehicle through a passenger side window when a pickup truck operated by 21 year old Christopher Lamonaca lost control, striking the parked vehicle. The door of the struck vehicle hit the troopers head and he was thrown backwards into a ditch. The Trooper suffered minor injuries while both vehicle operators were unharmed. Summary charges are pending for the operator of the pickup.

(AMBRIDGE, Pa) A $25,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education will fund new resources for The Beaver County Career and Technology Center, state Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Beaver, announced today.

Matzie said the Career and Technical Education Equipment grant will help ensure Beaver County CTC graduates are ready to compete in the modern workplace.

“Maintaining state-of-the-art equipment is essential for preparing career and tech students to hit the ground running,” Matzie said. “The new funding will ensure Beaver County CTC has the resources needed to train students in cutting-edge techniques so they can step into family sustaining jobs. It will also help ensure regional businesses have the well-trained workforce they need to stay competitive.”
