B.F. Jones Memorial Library’s power was back on yesterday afternoon, according to Linda Helms, librarian. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Helms was at the Aliquippa School Board meeting last night and reported that lightning hit a transformer behind the library causing the outage. On another note, a pilot program from the state will be held at the library entitled READY ROSIE FOR PRESCHOOLERS . The program will be held three times a week. Helms expects preschoolers from throughout the district and parents will attend.

Mike Rossi – the Democratic challenger to Jim Christiana for the 15th district State Representative seat – acknowledges it will be an uphill battle against the incumbent’s financial war chest. He also talked about why people want to see change. Rossi made those comments to Beaver County Radio News following a press conference that he held Tuesday afternoon in front of the Beaver County courthouse.

Aliquippa councilman Donald Walker issued a statement yesterday afternoon alerting residents that donations aren’t being taken for DiMantae Bronaugh and if residents are approached, please call police immediately. That’s according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Bronaugh, whose leukemia is out of remission was to begin his senior year and play football for the Quips this season.

Forty children ages 3 through 5 formed a parade with their teachers from the Lincoln Early Learning Center this morning and visited the Midland Police Department. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano was there as the 2 chiefs, Ron Lutton and Keith McCarthy, along with officers Dave McGee, Shippingport Officer Hannah Jones and Anthony Branchetti greeted the children and they toured the police department. The children presented officers with handmade cards and gift bags . Rachel Book, director of the center, said the children are always talking about the police and “we wanted to say thank you and wanted to do something for you”.

An Aliquippa woman called police Friday just before midnight to report that 3 men entered her home,unlawfully. One raped her at gunpoint, and the other 2 men participated, according to Police Chief Don Couch. Officer Scott Tapler and Beaver County Detective Patrick Young responded , and according to the criminal complaint filed in night court by District Judge Doug Loughner, Clarence Matthew Larue, of Tarentum, was arrested on 77 charges including, rape, robbery, burglary, criminal trespass and indecent assault. Larue is lodged in the Beaver County Jail and his bond was set at $150,000. Warrants have been issued for his 2 accomplices who face the same charges. As of this morning, the other men, Michael Guin and Malaki Helencamp, have not been apprehended.

Aliquippa’s new k-9 vehicle was delivered Sunday afternoon during the San Rocco celebration, according to Police Chief Don Couch. Frank Catroppa, CEO of Coast to Coast Communications donated the vehicle, and officers memorialized on the vehicle are: Willie Peluso, Jimmy Naim, Joe Catroppa, Frank’s late father, Ralph Pastine, and Chief William Alston.. Chief Couch tells Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano that the police department, city and residents are grateful to Frank. He said, “We’re proud of his success, and remembering his hometown.” Officer Jim Brown is Cato’s handler.

The BF Jones Memorial Library in Aliquippa was without power yesterday after lightning struck a pole near the book dropoff outside the library. Librarian Linda Helms was at the Center Supervisors meeting and she told Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano that the internet was also knocked out shortly before 3 p-m. At around 7:30 last night, Duquesne Light was called and they said it would be a while before power is restored.

Center Supervisors met last night in regular session. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano was there. She says that Elkhorn Run Road residents Bob and Shirley Whippo asked when something would be done to the road which is in need of repair. Supervisor Richard George said the road is not on the list for any work. Township chairman Bill DiCioccio, Jr. said that the supervisors may be able to do something now. Road chairman Richard George will report to the township after he visits the road this week. Gioradano also says that township residents reported that Waste Management has been picking up 3 days a week, but the supervisors have a contract with the hauler for one day a week. Road chairman Richard George said the hauler broke the contract…and now the township is getting a lot of complaints No contract extension will be granted until the supervisors find out what is going on.

Jurors could start deliberating today in the perjury and obstruction trial of Pennsylvania’s attorney general. Former top aides say Kathleen Kane leaked secret grand jury files to get revenge on a rival and then lied about it. Her campaign consultant says he conspired with her on a cover story to frame her chief deputy.
