The East Rochester-Monaca Bridge will close this weekend to allow for reconstruction work. The bridge was originally slated to close last weekend…but work was postponed because of poor weather. PennDOT has announced that the bridge will close at 6:00 tonight and will re-open Monday morning at 6:00. Crews will perform reconstruction work on Route 65 in the area of the bridge. This weekend’s closure is the second of three to be scheduled…although the third hasn’t been announced yet. Detours will be posted.

October Is Fire Prevention Month In Beaver County
Aliquippa Fire Chief Dave Foringer gave some tips to residents on how to prevent fires yesterday, he said, check your smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers to see if they are operating properly, don’t stack anything in the area of your hot water tank or furnace. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, one tip that stands out is “Keep your stoves clean, there are a lot of grease fires.” Center Township Fire Lt. Chris Shaffer said that the department went to the Central Valley Schools, both McDonald’s, and all the day care centers during the first week and presented programs on fire prevention. Shaffer said the department was very busy.
Hundreds Flock to Job Fair At The Mall
(Center Township, PA) Throngs of Job seekers were seen at the Beaver Valley mall on Thursday as P.A. Career Link of Beaver County hosted their annual Job Fair. Dozens of local and regional businesses were set up as potential applicants were able to talk directly to hiring representatives and apply for positions on site.
Beaver County Radio was part of the event and did a live broadcast, hosted by Frank Sparks.

Kids Wearing Clown Masks On Halloween A Concern At Aliquippa City Council Work Session
Aliquippa City Council approved the purchase of 2 properties at 311 and 313 Franklin Avenue by Frederick Jay Jeter from the Beaver County Repository Code enforcement officer Mike Demcak said that both structures are repairable. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports the new owner is exonerated from paying back taxes on the properties. Alan J. Spangler ‘s purchase of a home at 1226 Wade Street was approved, and he, too, is exonerated from paying taxes owed on the property, Demcak told council that high weeds exist, and repairs have to be done on the structure. Councilman Donald Walker asked Police Chief Don Couch about children wearing clown masks on Halloween, and Couch said that nothing was mentioned at the County Police Chief’s meeting. Couch said police will keep an eye out, and asked parents to do likewise. Walker asked about the possibility next year changing trick or treat time to 5-7 p.m. County wide trick or treat is 6-8 p.m. Monday
Aliquippa Officials Tackling The Issue Of Blight In The City
The Aliquippa Blight and Property Management Committee met last night for an orientation with City Administrator Sam Gill, Code Enforcemnt and Zoning Officer M9ike Demcak Aleesha Hunt Williams , coordinator , and Fire Chief Dave Foringer last night. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giodano, the committee, made up of citizens were given an overview of what to look for to help eradicate blight in the city. There are currently 800 vacant blighted properties in the city and a zone will be assigned to each volunteer. Demcak and police Captain Ryan Pudik worked for over a year to identify the areas where there is blight ,and properties left unattended due to death, or where an absentee landlord has neglected the property.
Rocks Thrown At Vehicles On Interstate 376 In Brighton Township
State police in Beaver County are investigating two instances that happened 30 minutes apart in which rocks were thrown at moving vehicles on Interstate 376 in Brighton Township. The first incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. Monday when rocks were thrown from alongside the highway in Brighton Township at two Gordon Food Service Trucks. No one was hurt in that incident, which happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 35.5 Thirty minutes later police reported a rock was thrown at a moving vehicle near Chapel Road. In that situation the rock hit the hood and went through the windshield of the vehicle which had two people inside. No injuries were reported. No arrests have been announced.
Two Separate Overnight Shootings Under Investigation in Beaver County
Authorities in Beaver County are investigating after two separate shootings last night. The first occurred at around 8 p.m. One person was shot in the 700 block of Riverview Drive in Rochester. One hour later, a person was shot in the 1000 block of Davis Street in Aliquippa. Both victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance. No word on their conditions or what prompted either shooting.

Commissioner Sandie Egley Puts Questions Regarding Renovations Of Her Office To Rest
Commissioners chairman Sandie Egley says she and her family are paying for the cost of renovating her office. Egley says it cost less than 12-hundred dollars to paint the walls and lay down a hardwood floor. The renovation of Egley’s office was in question because of no available information at the time added to the county budget crunch.
Center Township Police Officer Resigns Abruptly; Move Under Investigation
Center Township’s DARE officer Jeff Stone resigned recently, according to police Chief Barry Kramer. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that Kramer said that he contacted the state police to investigate why the officer resigned.
