Real estate taxes are going up for a second consecutive year in the Riverside School District. The school board unanimously adopted the 2016-2017 budget that raises real estate taxes by two mills. The cause for the tax hike is being attributed to an increase of about $479,000 in the district’s contribution to the state’s school retirement fund.

Jordan Brown To Live in Boardman, Ohio
Jordan Brown’s new temporary home will be in the Boardman, Ohio region. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Brown – who was accused of committing a double homicide in Lawrence County at the age of 11 – will be living with his father’s aunt and uncle. Brown’s new living arrangement will reportedly last until he goes to college. Brown was found delinquent for the 2009 fatal shooting of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn child. Houk’s family wanted Jordan to be tried as an adult. They believe Brown should spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Garbage Truck Hits House In Cranberry Twp.
A garbage truck hit a house in Cranberry Township this morning. The Vogel Disposal truck reportedly rolled backward and crashed into a house on Parkwood Drive. Officials say the siding of the house was damaged by the impact. Witnesses say the vehicles’s operator got out to straighten a trash can, apparently forgot to put on the brake, allowing the truck to roll back and hit the house. No injuries were reported.
2 Mini-Ponies Found Dead At Abandoned Daugherty Township Home
Police and humane officials are investigating after three animal were found dead at an abandoned home in Daugherty Township. According to police, two mini ponies were found dead in a detached garage along Route 68 this week. Police say the garage was in poor condition and contained feces and garbage. A dead cat was also found on the property. Police say the home and animals were in the care of Sherilyn Sutton. There is no word on possible charges at this time.
22 Beaver County Vacant Positions To Be Eliminated
Some of Beaver County’s vacant positions are being eliminated. Commissioners Chief of Staff Joe Weidner tells Beaver County Radio News that the county salary board plans to cut 22 vacant positions. He says the board will meet next month to formalize those cuts. The cuts have been pre-approved by the commissioners.
Beaver County DA Appears on Teleforum To Talk About Drug Epidemic
Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier appeared on Teleforum this morning with Mike Romigh to talk about the rise in fatal opioid drug overdoses in the county and all across the country. Lozier said at one point not too long ago, there were a total of five opioid drug overdose deaths in one day here in Beaver County alone.
Central Valley School Board Approves Hiring Of New Assistant HS Principal
The Central Valley School Board met last night and approved the hiring of a new assistant principal at the high school.Mark Vukovcan. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that he will earn a salary of $80,000 annually, according to board president Tom Mowad, Jr. Mowad said that Roberta Roma was hired as an accounts payable clerk at a salary of $20,000 a year. She resigned from a similar position in the Aliquippa School District. The board also accepted the resignation of Lauren Grossman, a paraprofessional .Fifteen professional staff members attained tenure, according to Mowad. Board treasurer Tom King will serve in that capacity from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. He will receive a stipend of $250.00.
Ambridge Police Search For Serial Burglar
Ambridge Police Chief James Mann reported that their have been several daylight burglaries and police are looking for a young couple in their 20’s. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that the woman is white, pregnant and has a pony tail. The man is shorter than the woman with a scruffy beard, and a lot of tattoos. Police are asking that anyone having information to please call them. The burglaries occurred May 24, 25, 27, 28, and 31 . Mann also reported a drug dealer, and 2 more drug arrests were made recently in the borough. He credit officer mike McQuade for his efforts A Crime Watch meeting will be held in the borough building on Tuesday at 6 p.m., according to Mayor Richard D’ambrosio. Candlelight Vigil To Be Held Tonight In Beaver To Remember Lives Lost To Heroin epidemic
A candlelight vigil and recovery celebration will be held tonight at Irvine Park in Beaver to remember those who lost their lives to the heroin epidemic and also to celebrate those who are in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. The event is being hosted by the Pittsburgh chapter of Not One More, an organization that raises awareness about narcotic addiction. The Beaver Vigil and Recovery Celebration will feature multiple guest speakers, a food truck and entertainment. Among those speaking tonight will be former Beaver Falls Police Chief Charles Jones, now the city’s manager…and Kate Lowery, the administrator at the Beaver County Behavioral Health Drug and Alcohol Program. Registration for the Recovery Celebration will start as early as 6 p-m…and the festivities will take place from 7 to 9 p-m.
Aliquippa School Board Member Resigns
The Aliquippa School Board accepted the resignation of Roberta Roma, the district’s Accounts Payable clerk effective Monday, June 20, 2016. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Dr. Pete Carbone, acting superintendent announced that elementary gifted education teacher Mrs. Debbie Frank will retire June 30. Mrs. Frank has served the district for 31 years. Beaver County NAACP Labor and and Industry Committee will use the Black Box Theater for a job fair on Wednesday, June 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Robert Jones from the group’s Labor and Industry Committee approached the board for approval. The group will be charged $100 for custodian and rental fees. The school board will meet next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Black Box Theater .
