A Center Township resident wrote the township a letter asking to not have his trash or recycling picked up from his home, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. According to the township’s garbage ordinance, all trash and recyclables are to be picked up by the township and residents must pay for collection!! This ordinance pertains to all single family dwellings.

Center Twp. Dollar General Store In Violation Of Township Ordinance
The Center Township Board of Supervisors met last night and reported that the Dollar General store, located on Pleasant Drive, is in violation of a township’s ordinance because neighboring properties are being flooded during heavy rains. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, letters were sent to the store in October 2015 and, most recently in January informing them that they are in violation of the Storm Water Management Ordinance. The supervisors said they want immediate action on the problem.

Cigarette Taxes Going Up Today In Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania’s cigarette tax is going up today by a buck per pack, giving smokers one more reason to quit or cross the border to buy. The tax will be $2.60 starting today, up from $1.60. It’s the largest-single increase on the state’s smokers since Pennsylvania first imposed a cigarette excise tax in 1935. For Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and the Republican-controlled Legislature, it was a step toward addressing a long-term deficit.
Driver Injured When Car Strikes Firetruck In Pulaski Township
A driver was injured when a firetruck and car collided in Pulaski Township Saturday morning. The crash happened at 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Rochester Road and Marion Hill Road. Firefighters say a Daughtery Township volunteer fire department truck was returning to the station from a drill in New Brighton. The truck was going through the intersection when a car, driven by a 26-year-old woman, skidded through a red light and struck the right rear of the fire truck. The driver was taken to Heritage Valley Hospital. Firefighters on the truck were not injured.

Investigators Say Man With Stolen Gun May Have Been Planning A Theater Massacre In Center Twp
A prosecutor says there’s a “real possibility” a Georgia man jailed on charges he brought a stolen gun and ammunition into a Center Township movie theater planned to shoot it up. Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier is talking about 21-year-old William Gossett, of Covington. He was arrested Saturday at the Cinemark Theater in Center Township on Saturday. Township police say they say they stopped Gossett after he walked into the theater with a large bag, wearing long-sleeved military fatigues despite temperatures in the 90s. Police say the handgun in the bag was stolen in Ohio. Gossett is charged only with receiving stolen property and having an unlicensed gun. Federal authorities confirm they’re also investigating.

Hillary Clinton made history last night as the first woman to secure the presidential nomination from a major party. Former State Representative/ Minority Whip Mike Veon was at the Democratic National Convention all this week and phoned in daily reports to Beaver County Radio’s Mike Romigh during Teleforum. Veon says Clinton’s acceptance speech last night was the best speech he’s ever seen her give.
2nd Annual Big Hogs 4 Big Dogs Benefit Scheduled To Take Place Saturday In Bridgewater
The 2nd annual Big Hogs 4 Big Dogs Benefit Run & Dinner takes place tomorrow (Saturday). The event’s organizer – James Capps – tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that the event will be presented by Legend Riders of Beaver County and Gentle Ben’s Giant Breed Rescue. It takes place at Robert’s Roadside Inn on Sharon Road in Bridgewater on Saturday from 11am to 7pm. There will be a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese caution, great food and a DJ. Proceeds to benefit the dogs at Gentle Ben’s Giant Breed Rescue.
