Deer Goes Through Truck Windshield In Crash On Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lawrence County

State police say a medical helicopter was called to an accident involving a utility truck and a deer Monday on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lawrence County. The accident was reported shortly before 2:00 yesterday afternoon near mile marker 4.5 in Homewood, between the Gateway Toll Plaza and the New Castle interchange. Police say a witness reported that the deer went through the windshield, hitting a person inside the truck. The victim’s name and condition have not been released.

15 Killed In Crashes Statewide Over Holiday Weekend

15 people died in car crashes investigated statewide by the Pennsylvania state police over the long Thanksgiving holiday and weekend. State police say they responded to slightly more than 1,000 crashes in which 272 people were injured during the five-day holiday weekend that stretched from Nov. 25 through Nov. 29. Police say 91 of those crashes involved alcohol, seven of which were fatal.

Investigators Looking Into Fatal ATV Accident in Franklin Township

Police are investigating a fatal crash in Franklin Township. According to officials, an ATV rider was killed Friday afternoon when he went off a trail and into a pond that was several feet deep. It happened around 4 p.m. in an old strip mining area. He was apparently trapped under the ATV until a bystander found him and pulled him out, but it was too late. The victim was later identified as 60-year-old Robert Wright of Claysville. A passenger was also hurt and flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. Authorities are investigating whether others were in a group riding with Wright, and whether they left the scene after the crash.

Thousands flock to Beaver for Annual Light Up Night

(Beaver, PA)  An unusually warm late November evening drew an estimated crowd of more than three thousand people into downtown Beaver for the annual light up night festivities.  The event was coordinated by the Beaver Area Chamber Of Commerce and in addition to various merchant shopping specials,  it featured live music, Horse drawn carriage rides, train rides, and, of course, Fireworks to conclude the festivities at 9 PM.

Beaver County Radio, WBVP and WMBA, were at Light Up Night as Frank Sparks, Pat Septak and Ed Hermick hosted a live broadcast from near the main stage on College Avenue.  The Beaver High School Chorus, Valentina Cherico, Rick Gilbert, The Maybrayz,  Donna Groom and The Voices entertained the crowd with Holiday and traditional favorite tunes throughout the evening.  Here is a recording  of Rudy Zetz, from The Voices,  singing a stirring rendition of “Oh Holy Night” live at the event:

Additional celebrities on hand for the evening included  NASCAR Radio play by play announcer, Mike Lysakowski, who hails from New Castle, was the Master of Ceremonies.

Deer Hunting Rifle Season Begins Monday

Pennsylvania deer hunters are getting an assist from the state when rifle season opens Monday. The state Game Commission is using bright yellow-and-green signs to steer them to sections of state game lands where it is working to restore the forest vegetation and habitat that attract deer.
