MONTOURSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — President Donald Trump is claiming that one of his Democratic rivals for the White House, former vice president and Pennsylvania native Joe Biden, “deserted” Pennsylvania. Trump made the charge Monday night at a rally at Williamsport Regional Airport. In fact, Biden was born in Scranton and left for Delaware with his family when he was 10. Trump and Biden have made Pennsylvania front and center in their efforts to win the presidency next year.

Pittsburgh’s controversial gun legislation is on hold for now. At a court hearing today the City agreed it will not enforce it until a court rules on its legality. The legislation, which was signed by Mayor Bill Peduto in April, makes it illegal to use assault weapons within the city. The legislation also gives courts the power to take weapons away from people deemed to be a risk. It’s unclear when a court ruling will take place. Gun rights advocates argue the new law goes against their Constitutional rights.

MCMURRAY, Pa. (AP) — A school district outside Pittsburgh has publicly censured a longtime board of education member over a racist Facebook post that was published on his personal page. The Peters Township board made its decision Monday night after William Merrell apologized for his posts, saying that although he has a right to voice his views on different issues he realized they may have caused harm. Several residents at the meeting called on Merrell to resign. He’s up for re-election in Tuesday’s primary.

Freedom police say a man was high on drugs when he suffocated his two-year-old stepson. Ty Lucente was charged yesterday with criminal homicide. Lucente is accused of passing out on the couch after taking suboxone this past weekend and rolling over on top of the boy.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Three Democrats and three Republicans are vying for two spots on each party’s fall ticket to fill open seats on Pennsylvania’s Superior Court. Tuesday’s primary election will settle the nominees for the November election. The mid-level appellate court handles civil and criminal appeals from Pennsylvania’s county courts.

According to this week’s Triple-A Gas Price Report The average price of gasoline across Western Pennsylvania is two cents cheaper this week at $3.06 per gallon… heading into the Memorial Day Weekend. The national prices is at 2.85 a gallon which is a penny cheaper than last week. Drivers a year ago in Western Pa were paying more on average at 3.09 a gallon.

State Department of Transportation officials say Pennsylvania’s Real I-D system is now in line with federal regulations. The official word came from the U-S Department of Homeland Security Monday. The new Real I-Ds being issued can be used to board commercial airlines and to enter federal facilities beginning in October 2020.

An investigation is underway into a New Castle house fire. The blaze broke out yesterday afternoon in the back of a house on Sciota Street. Firefighters say the cause appears suspicious. A woman and child who live in the home were able to escape without injuries.
