Some Ohio residents aren’t too happy with the marketing of a new candle that’s named for their state. Simple Nature is marketing the unscented candle by poking fun at Ohio: “Not much to see. Not much to do. Welcome to Ohio, the unscented candle.” On an Instagram post from the company, they posted a photo of the candle with the caption, “Fresh batch of nothing getting shipped out.”
A majority of Americans say they think Donald Trump is going to win a second term, according to a CNN Poll…even as the President’s reviews on issues other than the economy remain largely negative. The new poll finds 54% say their best guess is that Trump will win the 2020 election, 41% feel he will lose. The new numbers on Trump are a reversal from December, when a narrow majority of 51% said they thought Trump would lose his bid for re-election.
Walmart will soon offer a unique grocery delivery service, ‘Inhome’. Starting this fall, customers in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Missouri and Vero Beach, Florida can not only buy groceries online, they can then have them dropped off right in their kitchen. Walmart employees will first pick the produce or other household items, ordered by a shopper online. They will then deliver food items into the customer’s refrigerator, using smart technology that enables the homeowner to let them in and watch what they do. Walmart is in an ongoing battle with Amazon to shrink the amount of time it takes to get packages to customers’ doors. If ‘Inhome’ is successful, the world’s largest retailer says it may expand the service to other cities.
There’s a controversy brewing this morning over a new sign in downtown Pittsburgh that says “No Hate Anytime, Be Kind” but some social media users just aren’t feeling the love. About 25 of the new signs put up across the city last month are meant to inspire kindness and discourage hate. One Twitter user lamented that there are no contracts for Pittsburgh Fire Fighters. Another person online said, they don’t mind the messages, but is this what we need to be spending taxpayer money on?…saying they’re rather have pothole-free roads instead. A spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto says the mayor thought it would be fun to tell people to be kind and not hate each other…and to celebrate the life of Fred Rogers…and according to the mayor’s office, the mayor and his staff did not spend any funds. They say the signs were made by the city’s sign department using existing manpower and existing material…and that the signs were made in one day.
Patterson Township police say that a man opened fire in his own garage last night, with the neighboring house less than 100 feet away. When police arrived on the scene, Donald Klink ignored police orders, and an officer had to detain him. He claims he was mad about being fired from his job, decided to clean his gun, and then test fired to make sure it still worked correctly. Klink is charged with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, and is awaiting a preliminary hearing on June 11th.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The top Democratic of the Pennsylvania Senate says an investigation of sexual misconduct claims against Montgomery County state Sen. Daylin Leach found a “lengthy pattern of troubling behavior” and that he should resign. Leach, however, says he feels vindicated after getting to read a summary of the findings. Minority Leader Jay Costa says the report in no way absolves Leach and that his actions created an unprofessional and sexualized workplace environment that shouldn’t be tolerated.
Legislation has been introduced in Harrisburg to help working families take family or medical leave from their jobs without losing pay or position. Don Rooney has more…
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Animal control officers in Pittsburgh have captured an alligator. A person walking a dog spotted the 5-foot gator in the city’s Beechview neighborhood around 10 p.m. Thursday. Officers cornered it against a garage door before taping its jaws shut. It’s the second time in recent weeks that an alligator was found in Pittsburgh. A gator was pulled from the Monongahela River in May.
