The Pittsburgh City Council is planning to vote on gun-control legislation introduced in wake of the synagogue massacre, but Second Amendment advocates are promising a swift legal challenge if the bills are approved. The legislation would place restrictions on military-style assault weapons like the AR-15 rifle that authorities say was used in the attack that killed 11 and wounded seven. State law prohibits municipal regulation of guns.

AUDIO: The 42nd Maple Syrup Festival Is Two Weekends Away!
You can feel it in the air. You can see it on the calendar. Heck, you can probably taste it in your mind.
It’s Festival time.
As has been tradition for over four decades now, the arrival of Spring in Beaver County is joined by the arrival of the Maple Syrup Festival. The tradition–of live entertainment, local craftsmen and vendors, as well as the delicious pancakes–is now in its 42nd year and set to commence on April 6-7 at Brady’s Run Lodge.
The 2019 Maple Syrup Festival is presented, as always, by the Beaver County Conservation District, and Director Jim Shaner joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to break down what it takes to put the festival on, all of the events and aspects that county citizens have come to know and love, and the great cause of helping the Conservation District by attending the festival.

Jussie Smollett Sticking To His Story After Prosecutors Drop All 16 Felony Counts Against Him
Neither Jussie Smollett nor his attorney have backtracked from his original account that he was the target of a racist and homophobic attack in January. The “Empire” actor spoke to reporters Tuesday after a court hearing in which his attorneys say prosecutors dropped all 16 felony counts alleging Smollett staged the attack. Prosecutors haven’t explained why they made the surprise decision and haven’t said if they still maintain Smollett orchestrated the incident.
One-Third Of State’s Counties Advance Plans To Install New Voting Systems Ahead Of 2020’s Presidential Election
Pennsylvania’s top elections official says one-third of the state’s counties are advancing plans to install new voting systems ahead of 2020’s presidential election. Kathy Boockvar, Gov. Tom Wolf’s acting secretary of state, told lawmakers Tuesday that 21 of 67 counties have approved plans amid the administration’s push to adopt systems with voter-verifiable paper trails that are viewed as a hedge against hacking. Boockvar was testifying during a Senate committee hearing.
Pennsylvania Receives An ‘F’ For Its Efforts To Remove Lead From Drinking Water
A report by an environmental and consumer advocacy group is giving Pennsylvania an “F” for its efforts to remove lead from drinking water in schools. PennEnvironment and PennPIRG released the grade Tuesday, saying Pennsylvania hasn’t been aggressive enough in replacing lead pipes, plumbing or fixtures in schools.
Kamala Harris Promises Teachers a Raise If Elected President
In the first major policy proposal of her presidential campaign, Sen. Kamala Harris of California is focused on boosting the salaries of teachers. Harris’ campaign says her plan is an unprecedented investment in teacher pay and toward programs dedicated to teacher recruitment, training and professional development. In new details released today, the Democrat’s campaign described the underpayment of teachers as a “national failure that’s holding America back” and said that “we’ve failed to give teachers the respect and resources they deserve.”
