Veterans Breakfast Club To Hold 24-Hour “Vet-A-Thon” On Veterans Day

The Veterans Breakfast Club is about to hold an event that not only covers breakfast, but extends to lunch, dinner, dessert and midnight snacks–regardless of the time zone.

“Vet-A-Thon” is a 24-hour livestream event taking place on Veterans Day, November 11, beginning at 12:00 AM ET and running until 11:59 PM ET. It will feature constant stories, tributes, recognitions, and discussions about the military. Veterans and supporters of veterans will be involved and are encouraged to attend or participate if they haven’t already done so.

Todd DePastino

Todd DePastino is the executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club, and he joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the “Vet-A-Thon”. DePastino said the idea started as a 12-hour event that was to be held to allow veterans of wars from World War II all the way to Iraq and Afghanistan to share their experience not just in the field of combat, but their stories of bonding with fellow members within their branches or regimens and living their lives in subcultures that are unique to the military.

DePastino himself is not a veteran, but his pursuit of preserving history among those who have served has taken an operation that originated “in his attic” and has connected the veterans of Western Pennsylvania to veterans throughout the United States, reaching coastal areas such as California and Southern Florida. He said that the necessity for digital gathering due to the events of 2020 has led to a greater outreach that not only have made the “Vet-A-Thon” possible, but could create the possibility of VBC events to take place outside the parameters of Western Pennsylvania.

Despite the recent success created digitally, though, the VBC is glad to have live gatherings once again as well. One such gathering is set to take place at Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver taking place on November 20 beginning at 8:30 AM. For more details about that, “Vet-A-Thon”, and all other events and info, you can visit their website at veteransbreakfastclub.org.

AUDIO: Coach Sherman McBride Sees Bright Future For Ambridge Football

(Cover Photo/Sly Washington)

Never has a record of 2-8 felt so great.

Despite the losing record, Ambridge’s two wins not only doubled the entire win total of the previous five seasons combined (2016-2020), but it was enough to propel the Bridgers into fourth place in the Class 3A Northwest Six conference (2-3), giving the school its first playoff appearance since 2015.

The architect behind the Bridgers’ return to the postseason is Beaver County Sports Hall Of Fame member Sherman McBride–the longtime assistant for Aliquippa football, former track-and-field coach for the Quips, and an all-state running back in his own right.

McBride is now the HC at Ambridge, and he talked to Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County in lieu of the Bridgers’ upcoming first-round match with the Freeport Yellowjackets. McBride knows that his team is rather young (five freshman on the starting roster), but at the same time has faced a strong pedigree of teams over the 2021 campaign that has them battle-tested for the upcoming postseason.

More so, McBride sees the emergence of the youth and the success of the Bridgers as a stepping stone towards an even brighter future for the program. He acknowledged that several students have verbally made requests to join the football team, and that the school district from top to bottom has been supportive of this team. Perhaps even, McBride feels that continued momentum could propel Ambridge football back to glory that harkens the “heyday” of decades past.

The Ambridge/Freeport game will be on WMBA Friday night with a 6:30 airtime and a 7:00 kickoff.

VIDEO: United Way Of Beaver County Underway With 2021-22 Fundraiser Campaign & Matching Donation Event

The holidays are a time for giving, and few understand the giving spirit better than the United Way of Beaver County.

UWBC executive director Mike Rubino joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss the current 2021-22 fundraising campaign being brought on by the United Way of Beaver County, who uses their contributions to fund and assist organizations such as the Women’s Center of Beaver County, Habitat For Humanity, and the 2-1-1 hotline system.

New this year is a matching donation event, in which the United Way is matching the donations of benefactors up to $100,000, to set a goal for $200,000 to be reached through this new initiative. Rubino mentioned that the goal was inspired to match the generous donations by two particular groups back in 2020. He also spoke about the many ways in which people can donate to the United Way, including through the new “round-up” method available on their website.

For more information on how to donate, how to become a donating business, or upcoming events, visit the UWBC at unitedwaybeaver.org.

Tri-State Neuropathy Brings Its Services To Beaver County Residents

Since 2013, the people of Tri-State Neuropathy have made a point to help those struggling with neuropathy in safe, drug-free, and effective ways. Now they have extended their services to the people of Beaver County with offices in Beaver, along with the five other offices in the tri-state area.

Founder/Physician Dr. Shawn Richey and Physician Dr. Jared Yevins joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the elements and signs that lead to peripheral neuropathy, a condition suffered by 30 million Americans. The physicians at Tri-State Neuropathy will determine who is a candidate for neuropathy treatment, and the initial consultation is free of charge.

According to Dr. Richey, 8,000 patients have been treated for neuropathy at the six Tri-State centers located in three states, and the satisfaction rate by patients is at 90%. More information about the doctors, locations, hours, and procedures can be found by going to marydancedin.com (and the website name’s origin was discussed during the interview). The Beaver offices can be contacted by phone at 878-313-3019.
