(Homestead, PA) Detectives from the Allegheny County Police HomicideUnit areinvestigatingan incident in which someone was shot multiple times in a parking lot at The Waterfront shopping center in Homestead. Allegheny County dispatchers received their first notification of this shooting just after 8:30 p.m. yesterday.A man later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds to both his torso and extremities. Police stated that the man was last said to be in critical, but stable condition. It is unknown at this time if any arrests were made. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
(Allegheny County, PA) Crews battled a house fire yesterday evening in Ross Township. According to Allegheny County 911, a report came from the 90 block of Hillendale Road at around 6:30 p.m. The West View Volunteer Fire Department confirms a fire spread into the basement of the home, however; the first arriving units handled it. Crews stretched a line off a fire truck to contain it, and no one was injured. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire or if anyone was home at the time it occurred.
(Big Beaver Borough, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Gibsonia reported via release today that twenty-year-old Asher Sawman of Youngstown, Ohio was charged after causing a two-vehicle crash in Big Beaver Borough early yesterday morning. At 2:15 a.m., Sawman was driving on I-76 West on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and side swiped another vehicle after he lost control on that road. There were no injuries after the crash occurred.

Donald M. Domitrovich, 88, of Hopewell Township, passed away on December 17th, 2025, at Heritage Valley Beaver. He was born in Farmington, West Virginia and was the husband of Helen Domitrovich of Monaca. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia “Virgie” Mackey Domitrovich and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Tootsie (William “Sy”) Simon, Annabelle (Harry) Miller and Norma (Paul) Belich and a brother, Joseph Domitrovich, Jr. He is survived by two sons, Joseph Domitrovich of Monaca and James (Lorraine) Domitrovich of Chippewa. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Sonya (Richie) Hewitt of Rochester, Crystal (Ian) Livingston of Monaca, Faith Domitrovich (Scotty Hinzy) of Rochester, Amber (Andrew) Moody of Renfrew, Erin Domitrovich of Baden, and James Domitrovich, Jr of Monaca; as well as his four step grandchildren: Ryan Joseph, Branden Lang, Michael George and Frank George, Jr.; along with eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, two nieces and one nephew.
For 43 years, Donald applied his skill and dedication as a heavy equipment operator for Hopewell Township. He was a skilled mechanic and autobody man and was a car enthusiast who cherished the times he spent cruising in his prized ’72 Dodge Charger. His strong work ethic was not only evident in his professional life, but was also a valuable lesson he imparted to his family.
Beyond his work, he had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life and those around him. He was known for his hat collection, each one with its own story and memory attached. He was also a fan of old cowboy movies, he could often be found watching the adventures of the Wild West from the comfort of his living room. In the garden, his green thumb was legendary, especially for the best tomatoes that anyone could hope to taste. His family and friends will miss the tales he told, each one a piece of the rich tapestry of his life’s experiences.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 3 p.m. at the Wright Field House in Chippewa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
William S. Rubinosky, 70, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2025, at his residence in New Brighton. He was born in Pittsburgh and was raised in the West End Overlook section of Pittsburgh. He was a son of Frank S. and Josephine Regan Rubinosky and he and his late wife Susan were blessed with four children: Shawn (Mary) Haney, Brian (Ashley) Haney, Laura Rubinosky, and Stephen (Giovanna) Rubinosky. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Aaron, Caleb, Isaiah, and Emma. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he leaves behind three siblings: Doris Stefanic, Robert Rubinosky, and Karen Kostelnik.
Following his graduation from Bishop Canevin High School, William served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War. Driven by a lifelong passion for helping others, returned to academia later in life to earn an associate degree in Respiratory Therapy. His work ethic and talent were evident early on when he showcased his culinary skills as a chef at the Top of the Triangle Restaurant in Pittsburgh. His career path later led him to Davey’s Tree Service, where his hard work and dedication were equally apparent. However, it was his role as a respiratory therapist at Heritage Valley Beaver that reflected the heart of a man committed to caring for others. He found solace and inspiration in the fellowship of Wildwood Chapel in Aliquippa and the teachings of internet Preacher Daryl Lawson and his love of Jesus. He was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and music held a special place in his heart.
Friends will be received on Saturday, January 3rd from 1 p.m. until the time of a service at 3 p.m. at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, who was in charge of his arrangements. Interment will then take place with military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville.
Timothy R. Schwarz, 71, of Economy, passed away on December 28th, 2025. He was born on November 15th, 1954, a beloved son of the late Edward and Lorraine Schwarz. He is survived by his siblings: Edward (Karen) Schwarz, Keith (Sue) Schwarz, Karen Schwarz and Ronald (Sandy) Schwarz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Timothy was a graduate of Freedom High School and worked as a mechanic for many years before retiring. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and had a lifelong love for cars and anything with four wheels.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, from 3 p.m. until the time of a service at 5 p.m. at Alvarez-Hahn Funeral Services and Cremation, LLC, 547 8th Street, Ambridge, who was in charge of his arrangements. His burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Timothy’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
Elizabeth “Betty Jean” Sabo Chesnoski, 87, of Conway, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 29th, 2025. She was born in Ambridge on February 16th, 1938, a daughter of the late William Sabo and Beryl Parks, and the stepdaughter of Helen Sabo, who raised her from when she was a baby. For 57 wonderful years, she was married to her devoted husband, the late Nick Chesnoski, who preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her children and their spouses, her daughter, Brenda Mellen (Matthew), her son, Gary Chesnoski (Annette), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Mitchell Chesnoski (Lauren) and Mason Chesnoski, (fiancée Katrina Becker) and her siblings, William (Darlene) Sabo, Deborah (Richard) Michalik, and Donald (Stacey) Sabo. As an active member of the Conway Women’s Club, Elizabeth poured her energy into community service, always ready to offer a helping hand. Her commitment extended beyond her neighborhood, she dedicated over three decades to Sears, where she was known for her reliability and kindness to both colleagues and customers. She also took great joy in showing her beloved Shelties at local dog shows, where her gentle spirit and sense of pride shone through. Her life was defined by her deep dedication to her family and commitment to uplifting her community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and countless cherished memories. All who knew her were touched by her warmth, her laughter, and her genuine care for others. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the many lives she brightened along the way. Family and friends are invited to honor Elizabeth’s life on Friday, January 2nd from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at John Syka Funeral Home Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, who was in charge of her arrangements, and where prayers will be offered on Saturday, January 3rd at 10 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. in the Good Samaritan Catholic Church, 725 Glenwood Avenue, Ambridge, and the service will be followed immediately by a Committal service at the church. Committal will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville at a later date.
George N. Vorrias, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his Monaca residence, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in the village of Mesta, Chios, Greece, the only child of the late Nikolas and Marina (Sergonis) Vorrias. George’s journey led him to forge a new path in America, where he established deep roots and a loving family. In October 1980, he married his beloved wife, Carol Kibler Vorrias, at the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Church in Aliquippa, and together they shared 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Carol, and their three children, Nickolas (Laura) Vorrias, Andoni Vorrias, and Maurina (Jacob) McKay, his six grandchildren: William Bryne, Nikolas, Leo, Ariana and George Vorrias and Demetria McKay, who were the light of his life. He instilled in them the values of hard work, family, and the importance of tradition. He is also survived by a close cousin, Sergio (Irene) Sergonis of New Jersey, and is fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Kibler, Randy (Rose) Kibler, James (Cindy) Kibler, John (Kathy) Kibler, Brenda (Terry) Cochran, and Tom Kibler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Greece.
In his youth, George honed his skills as a furniture apprentice in Greece. At the age of nineteen, he immigrated to America, first settling in Steubenville, Ohio, in May of 1973. After moving to Monaca, George worked for Paul Mandalakas, who shared the same hometown in Greece, creating a special bond between them. His dedication to his craft led him to study in the early 1990s to become a master carpenter and master coppersmith.
George was a former member of the Monaca-Center #791 F & AM Lodge. However, his greatest joy was found in the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. George’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 2nd from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, who was in charge of his arrangements and where services will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 10 a.m.
Carolyn Ann Verszyla, 81, of Sewickley, passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sewickley on July 26th, 1944, a cherished daughter of the late Carl W. and Ann (Hrechun) Moore. She is survived by her children, Lisa Ann (John) Sieckowski and Jeffrey (Shelly) Verszyla, her five adored grandchildren, David Earl (Teresa), Madeline (Charlie Bailey), Eva Marie, Alexander and Carson, her sister, Marilyn Swartz (David Ries), her nephews, John V. Swartz (Julie) and Michael Swartz (Katie). She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Lucy.
Throughout her life, Carolyn demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to her community. She was elected several times as a Leet Township Commissioner, served as a manager for Rochester Township, and was a president of St. James Parish’s Church Council, where she was a lifelong member. She was known for her honesty, fairness, and unwavering dedication. She always carried the needs of the people she served in her heart. For more than 30 years, she was the welcoming face of the Sewickley Valley Hospital Emergency Room, offering comfort and kindness to families during moments of illness, accidents, and trauma. Her steady presence and compassionate spirit touched countless lives. She was also a loving mother and grandmother, Carolyn’s proudest accomplishment was raising her two children.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2nd, from 3 P.M. until the time of a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, who was in charge of her arrangements. Interment will take privately.
