AAA: Gas Prices Jump This Week
Gas prices are 15 cents higher in Western Pennsylvania this week at $4.851 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

Trend Analysis:

The cost of gasoline is increasing rapidly across the country in part due to seasonal trends and the rising cost of crude oil. The cost of a barrel of oil is nearing $120, nearly double from last August, as increased oil demand outpaces the tight global supply. Meanwhile, domestic gasoline demand rose last week in the wake of a robust Memorial Day weekend of travel. As a result, the national average for a gallon of gas surged 25 cents in one week to hit $4.86. Today’s national average is 59 cents more than a month ago, and $1.81 more than a year ago.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 700,000 barrels to 219 million barrels last week. Meanwhile, gasoline demand grew from 8.8 million b/d to 8.98 million b/d as drivers fueled up for Memorial Day weekend travel. These supply and demand dynamics have contributed to rising pump prices. Coupled with volatile crude oil prices, pump prices will likely remain elevated as long as demand grows and supply remains tight.

(New Brighton, Pa.) The New Brighton Historical Society has received a $39,083.00 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.
In 2020 the New Brighton Historical Society purchased the Irish-Townsend House and began restoring the property. The grant will go towards the ongoing project. Part of the conditions of the grant is that a 50/50 cash match must be made.
The Irish-Townsend House was originally built in 1855 and was sold to William P. Townsend on April 1, 1863 and remained in the Townsend family until it became a vacant property .

(North Fayette Twp, Allegheny County, Pa.) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers detected a loaded handgun in the carry-on bag of a West Virginia resident at the Pittsburgh International Airport security checkpoint on Sunday, June 5, 2022
The man, a resident of nearby Wheeling, W.Va., was caught with a .22 caliber handgun loaded with five bullets.
When the TSA officer spotted the gun in the worker’s backpack, the Allegheny County Police were alerted and confiscated the gun. The man told officials that he forgot that he had his loaded gun among his carry-on items.
“If you own a firearm, you need to know where it is at all times,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport. “Knowing where you put your gun is part of being a responsible gun owner. Now this individual faces a stiff Federal financial civil penalty.”
It is the 10th gun that has been detected at a TSA Checkpoint at Pittsburgh International this year.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has tweeted that he tested positive for COVID-19. The 73-year-old governor said in the tweet he has mild symptoms. He said he tested positive Monday evening. Wolf said in his tweet he’s grateful to have recently received his second vaccine booster shot. He said he will be following the CDC’s guidance to isolate at home. Wolf tested positive for the virus in December 2020 as well. He was asymptomatic at the time, according to his office.

(Beaver County, Pa.) Crime Solvers of Beaver County and the PA Crime Stoppers are offering a combined reward total of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the 2016 homicide of SJAVANTE GILLIAM.  On June 1, 2016, at 5:42am, officers of the Aliquippa Police Department responded to the 2100 block of McMinn Street for reports of a male subject down on sidewalk.  Upon their arrival officers found the victim deceased with a gunshot wound to the head.  The subject was identified as 28-year-old Sjavante Gilliam, a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former star of the Aliquippa Quips football team. The Beaver County Detective Bureau was called to assist in the investigation and the area was searched. Gilliam’s vehicle, a 2016 Ford Taurus, bearing Pennsylvania Registration KBG8805, was located in the 2100 block of McMinn Street that morning.   Gilliam was last seen in the area of the Main Street Bar around 12:30 am approximately 5 hours prior to the discovery of his body. Questioning of the neighbors surrounding the scene by the investigators offered no immediate witnesses and the crime remains unsolved. Hoping to solve the case and bring justice for Gilliam’s family after six years, the Beaver County Crime Solvers will temporarily match the PA Crime Stoppers reward for any information leading to an arrest this week. The increased reward will be available from June 3-10, making those with information eligible for a $10,000 reward. After June 10, the Crime Solvers extra reward will expire and callers will only receive the $5,000 from the PA Crime Stoppers. Weekday listeners to Beaver County Radio are in for a unique treat this Wednesday. That’s because “The Entrepreneur Life” with Eric McKenna and Rocco Cozza will air at a special time, this Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:30 P.M.  In addition to traditional radio coverage on 1230 WBVP, 1460 WMBA, 99.3 F.M. and 95.7 F.M., the show is also features a live video stream on the radio stations’ Facebook Page and You Tube Channels. The program is being moved to a new time slot this week because of live coverage planned for the Beaver Falls Car Cruise, which is happening this Saturday, June 11, 2022.  “The Entrepreneur Life” will return to it’s normal Saturday morning  schedule of 10:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. on June 18, 2022.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania is recovering from a stroke and now says he almost died from it after ignoring warning signs for years and a doctor’s advice to take blood thinners. Lt. Gov. John Fetterman spoke in a statement released by his campaign Friday. He has remained out of public view as he recovers ahead of the fall general election in what is expected to be one of the nation’s premier Senate contests. Fetterman’s cardiologist also disclosed that he has cardiomyopathy. Fetterman easily won the Democratic nomination in a four-way race while in the hospital four days after the stroke.

(New Brighton, Pa.) New Brighton Police Chief Ron Walton is reporting that New Brighton officers responded to  a dispute on Third Avenue in front of the Hovis Auto parts store on Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022 at 1:30 PM. Chief Walton said that the dispute  started at the YMCA where  young adults were playing basketball. An allegation  that the men were firing handguns led to the arrest of Darius Goosby, 20 of Rochester. According to Chief Walton Goosby was charged with recklessly endangering another person, firearms violations, and felony drug charges , and was taken to the Beaver County Jail.
Beaver County Radio staff member Keith Walsh is reported Saturday that you could see officers taking a Goosby into custody after the incident. There was also a white Chevy SUV involved that you could see evidence markers showing the shell casings on the ground. Witnesses at the scene told Walsh there were three other men involved who ran off.

(Coraopolis, Pa.) One person was taken to an area hospital early this morning after a short police pursuit ended with the person crashing at the intersection Ferree and Montour Streets in Coraopolis.

The situation began as a domestic incident and the person was leaving the scene which lead to the pursuit.
There is no word on the person’s condition at this time.
