The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a Pennsylvania inmate’s appeal to consider banning the death penalty across the United States. The justices did not comment today in turning away a challenge from death row inmate Shonda Walter. Walter’s appeal plays off Justice Stephen Breyer’s call in an impassioned dissent in June to re-evaluate the death penalty in light of problems involving its imposition and use.

One Death Reported in PA From Weekend Storm
The state had at least one storm-related death…and that was reported in Dauphin County. A coroner tells WHTM-TV the Halifax man suffered a “cardiac event” Sunday while shoveling snow, dying before emergency crews could help him.
Winter Storm Clean-Up Continues in PA
The cleanup continues across much of Pennsylvania following the weekend winter storm, with many schools and state offices in Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Reading all closed today. While highways are open, commuters are being warned to stay cautious because of possible black ice.

Ambridge keeps hold of a playoff spot in section 2-AAA with a victory over Hopewell tonight on WMBA. The Bridgers now have a 6-4 record in 2-AAA and have third place all to themselves. The Vikings fall to 0-10 in section play. Tom Hays has the recap for 1460 WMBA and Beaver County Radio.
Beaver 64, Central Valley 61 (Final)
After being down 12 heading into the 4th quarter with their season on the line, the Beaver Bobcats scored 29 points in the final frame, and Darius Wise’s 40-foot shot at the buzzer gave the Bobcat squad a 64-61 comeback win over the Central Valley Warriors.
Wise led all scorers with 35 points, including 19 in the 4th quarter. Josh Carter had 16 for Central Valley; both him and Wise were named tonight’s CCBC Players of The Game.
With the win, Beaver joins Central Valley and Blackhawk in a tie for 4th place in Section 2-AAA; all three schools are 4-6 in section play.

Robert Morris University Student Found Dead in Moon Township
A 21-year-old Robert Morris University student has been found dead. Police say the body of Jordan Willis was found in a wooded area of Moon Township around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A 9-1-1 caller told police they were walking their dogs when they came upon Willis’s body. The cause and manner of his death is unknown. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Three Hurt In Head-On Accident in East Rochester This Morning
Police and medics were called to the scene of a head-on crash in East Rochester this morning. It happened shortly before 11:00 on Route 65 right in front of the East Rochester Plaza. A medical helicopter was called to the scene. Beaver County Emergency Services dispatchers confirmed to Beaver County Radio’s Pat Septak that three people were injured in the crash and sent to area hospitals for treatment. The victims names and conditions have not been released. The roadway was partially closed for a while until crews cleared the scene. It is not clear at this time what caused the wreck.
Can What Happened With The Water In Flint, Michigan Happen Here In Beaver County?
Can the water disaster that happened in Flint, Michigan happen here? Al Goehring spoke with Jim Riggio of the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority on AM Beaver County this morning and asked him that very question. Riggio says that situation would never occur here because they have a system in place in which they are constantly monitoring and testing the water to ensure it’s safe for public consumption.
