Steelers Practice Today?

Rain forced the Steelers inside Sunday.  They did walk through  work in the St Vincent’s Gym.  Weather permitting, the Steelers will conduct their last two practices at St. Vincent today and Tuesday.  They made some roster moves over the weekend.  Two players were waived injured.  They were veteran safety Ross Ventrone and defensive lineman Roy Philon.  They signed cornerback Julian Whigan, offensive lineman Wade Hansen  and offensive lineman K.K. Mosely-Smith.  Smith played for Pitt and  Woodland Hills High School.  The Steelers host the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night.  Airtime is  5pm on WBVP-WMBA.  Kickoff is 5pm

 

Heritage Valley Nurses Have New Contract After Strike Threat

Nurses at the Heritage Valley Beaver hospital have agree to a new three-year contract after threatening to strike for a second time later this month. The hospital’s 500 nurses went on strike for one day, July 19, after negotiations failed to yield a new contract. The union had plans for a three-day strike beginning Aug. 23 before agreeing to the new deal over the weekend. The nurses had raised concerns about staff-to-patient ratios and health care costs. S.E.I.U. Nurses Union Chapter President Molly Romigh tells Beaver County Radio Newsman Pat Septak that both of those issues were addressed in the new deal.

Pirates West Coast Trip Continues

After winning two out of three from the Dodgers, the Pirates head north for a three game series against the San Francisco Giants.  Ryan Vogelsong, who won a world series ring with the Giants two years ago, will start for the the Pirates.  He will be opposed by Matt Moore for the Giants.  Moore will make his third start for San Francisco since being obtained in a trade.  Airtime from AT-&-T Park is  9:45 on WBVP-WMBA.

Chippewa Township Citizens Bank Robbery Under Investigation

The Chippewa Township Citizens Bank was robbed on Thursday.  Township Police Chief Robert Berchtold tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that a man entered the bank on Darlington Road at 2:45 p.m. and demanded money from three separate tellers. The man – whom police say did not brandish a weapon – took off on foot and got away with an undetermined amount of cash. Chief Berchtold tells us the F.B.I. is involved and will be releasing surveillance video very soon.

Autopsy Being Conducted On Body Found In Porta-Potty In Ambridge; Overdose Suspected

An autopsy is being conducted on the body of a man found dead in a portable toilet last night. According to Ambridge police, a bathroom maintenance worker found the body of a 33-year-old man in a portable bathroom stationed in the corner of Fourth Street and Park Road in the borough. The body is believed to have been dead for several days. Investigators have identified the man but are not yet releasing his name, pending notification of his family. Police say the death is another suspected overdose.

Soccer Coach Gets An Extension

Duquesne University has extend Women’s  Soccer Coach  Al Alvine’s contract through the 2020-21 season. Alvine is in his fifth season with the Dukes.  He guided his team to their first Atlantic 10 Championship and a NCAA tournament berth in 2015. He is 159-103-25 in 14-years as a head coach at Duquesene, Castleton State, St Anselem, and California University of Pennsylvania.

Steelers First Preseason Game

Most of the starters will sit tonight as the Steelers open their preseason schedule against the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field.  Airtime on WBVP-WMBA is 5pm. The kickoff is at 7.  When Heath Miller retired earlier this year, the Steelers signed free agent tight end Ladarius Green from San Diego.  Green had off season ankle surgery. That was healed  when training camp started.  He has yet to practice because of persistent head aches. He is in the Steelers concussion protocol.  Green signed a four year 20-million dollar contract a month after Miller retired. He told them about his ankle surgery but, sources say they never discussed his concussion problem.

Pirates Hit the Road

After a 4-2 home stand, the Pirates head for the west coast for the next six games.  The series begins tonight in Los Angeles.  The Pirates will start recently acquired Ivan Nova (1-0) against the Dodgers right- hander Ross  Stripling.  Because of the Steelers  game, the next broadcast game on WBVP-WMBA is on Saturday starting at 3:40.  The games are big for both the Pirates  and the Dodgers and Giants.  The Pirates are battling for the final playoff  spot in the National League.  The Dodgers and the Giants are in a tight race for first place in the Western  Division.
