Teleforum get a “Spark” this week.

(Beaver County, PA)  They say variety is the spice of life.  If that’s true, then WBVP and WMBA listeners will love what they’ve been hearing on the weekday morning talk show, “Teleforum”.  This week, Frank Sparks, co host of “The Saturday Morning Sports Slam”will sit behind the mic this week.

WPIAL 1A Girls: St Joseph’s 69, Quigley Catholic 65

Rested or rusty?

The Quigley Catholic Girls showed a little of both on Friday night, having enough energy to overcome a 36-26 halftime deficit, but not enough steam to hold off St. Joseph at the end, losing by a final score of 69-65.

Taylor Kirschner led #3 Quigley with 29 points, while Lizzy Celko led #6 St. Joseph with 23. Both players were selected as CCBC Players Of The Game.

St. Joseph will play #2 Cornell in the semifinals (Cornell 64-33 winners over Geibel Catholic).

WPIAL 2A Girls: West Greene 51 Rochester 37

It was too much Lampe for the Rochester Lady Rams.  They lost their  WPIAL Girls 2a  quarter final game  51-37. to West Greene. Madison Lappe scored 19 and  twin sister  McKenna 18 as West Greene advanced to the semi-finals for the first time in their history. The Lady Rams were lead  by Jasmine Mack with 17 points The Rams will now root for West Greene to win the WPIAL 2a Title so they can enter  the PIAA playoffs.

Heroin Overdose Deaths Spike In Beaver County, Nationwide

The number of people dying from heroin overdoses has tripled since 2010, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics. In 2015, more than 52,000 people died from drug overdoses nationwide. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf previously said heroin and opioid overdoses are now Pennsylvania’s leading cause of accidental deaths. More than 2,300 opioid overdoses have been reversed by first responders in Pennsylvania from November 2014 to January 2017. Overdose deaths involving fentanyl and tramadol also increased, according to data from 2015 which is the latest year available. Hundreds of people died from opioid overdoses in Beaver, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Butler, and Fayette counties in 2016.

Conti, Esquire.   Ms. Conti , through her firm, Conti Law, LLC, will sponsor the popular “Legal Minute” vignette, which airs at 7:50 A.M. as part of the weekday morning show “A.M. Beaver County”.   The Legal Minute is hosted by national known legal expert  Amy E. Feldman.

Four Broadcast Games Spearhead Local Teams In WPIAL Playoff Action

Tonight on Beaver County Radio, four local teams will be showcased on their run to the WPIAL Championships in basketball.

On WBVP tonight, the #2 Blackhawk Lady Cougars take on #7 Freeport in the quarterfinals of the 4A Girls’ playoffs at 6:30, with pre-game at 6:05. The second game of that doubleheader will follow as 3A #1 Lincoln Park will battle #8 Seton-LaSalle in Boys’ action. Both games will be played at North Allegheny HS.

On WMBA tonight, #5 Beaver takes on #4 Keystone Oaks in the 4A Girls’ quarterfinals at 6:30, with pre-game at 6:05. Following that will be #7 Rochester taking on #2 Vincentian in the 1A Boys’ quarterfinals. Both games will be played at Moon Area HS.
