An accountant is again set to plead guilty to helping the founder and former CEO of Pennsylvania’s largest online charter school avoid federal income taxes on more than $8 million that man siphoned from the school. Neal Prence is scheduled to enter the plea Wednesday before a federal judge in Pittsburgh. He balked when the plea was scheduled Sept. 19, but his attorney says the plea deal is again expected to occur.Prence is accused of conspiring with Nicholas Trombetta who pleaded guilty to the fraud last month involving The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. Trombetta acknowledged using the school’s money to buy a Florida condominium, houses for his mother and girlfriend, and various personal expenses, and socking most of the money away for retirement. He’ll be sentenced Dec. 20.

Hopewell Township Resident Is Honored With Special Award At Township Commissioners Meeting
Hopewell Township board of commissioners at last night’s meeting presented Henry Bufalini with the Robert Steigerwald Volunteer of the Year award for the many contributions he has made to the township park, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordani . He was also honored for his many contributions to the community and residents. Commissioners chairman Rich Bufalini read the resolution and presented it to Henry. Bufalini. Some park board members were in attendance for the event. Zoning officer said residents must keep their dogs under control because there have been many complaints called in .. Vegetation on properties bordering streets must be trimmed, and also around fire hydrants. A petition signed by residents of Johnson and Mill Sts. concerning road conditions was presented to the commissioners. The road department and engineer will look into the road conditions, which is actually an alley.. Mill St. residents have to enter their property via of Johnson St, and residents said something must be done.

Shake-Up Among Personnel In Ambridge Area School District
Last week Ambridge School Board met and accepted the resignation of 2 paraprofessionals , Timothy Fields and Heather Busse. They worked at the high school. The board accepted confidential and recording secretary Renee Gist’s resignation. Heather Wittmann, a food service cook at the junior high school, resigned effective this Friday. Junior high boys head soccer coach, Brian Romasco, also resigned. Board members voted to eliminate the position of secretary to the assistant to the superintendent / business manager be eliminated. Two positions – secretary to the director of district operations, and secretary to the director of curriculum – were created. Both positions will be part of the Ambridge Area Education Support Personnel Association.
Car Hits School Bus With Riverside Beaver County Students
A school bus carrying 14 students from the Riverside Beaver County school district was involved in a crash this morning. A car ran into the back of the bus on Route 288 at Brentwood Avenue in North Sewickley Township at around 8:30 this morning. Riverside Superintendent of Schools Doctor David Anney tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that two female students were taken to Ellwood City hospital to be checked out after complaining of neck pain. The driver of the car was taken to Heritage Valley Beaver.
Elderly Couple Die In Raccoon Township Accident
An elderly West Virginia couple are dead following a two-vehicle collision in Raccoon Township over the weekend. The fatal collision occurred on Route 18 Saturday evening. According to the Beaver County coroner’s office, 85-year-old Lloyd Mewha and 82-year-old Alice Mewha of Wellsburg died from blunt force trauma as a result of the accident. Raccoon Township police say they will release more information following the results of the investigation.
New Castle Man Charged In Death Of Two-Month-Old Baby
A New Castle man is facing charges in the death of a 2-month-old baby. 22-year-old Christopher Holmes is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person in the death of his girlfriend’s daughter, who he claims to have fathered. Police were called to an apartment on Pin Oak Drive Thursday for a report of a baby not breathing. The child was pronounced dead at UPMC Jameson Hospital. An autopsy showed the child died of blunt force trauma from the head. Police say Holmes was baby-sitting the child at the time of the injuries.
