Hopewell Area School Board Meets To Discuss Retirement Of Business Manager
Hopewell School Board approved the retirement of of Johannah Robb, business manager effective September 30, 2017, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Mrs. Robb has been working in the district 14 years. She said, i look forward to doing something different.” Tax collectors in Hopewell, Raccoon, and Independence Townships will earn $4.50 per parcel effective the first Monday of January 2018. Mrs. Robb told the board they are statutory employees , they are elected officials. the board was caught off guard when the requests were delivered at 3 p.m. to the office on Wednesday .Solicitor Jjohn Salopek said that the remuneration had to be passed before they pass election petitions. The district buys the computers for the tax collectors and the cost is shared with the townships. The tax collectors run for 4 year terms. Supt. Dr. Michelle miller announced that this is chool board recognition month and the board members were presented mementos from the staff, administration and students. Teacher Chris Signorelli will accompany 2 AP BIO/BIO students to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh to view an open heart surgery performed . Asst. principal Doug Rowe told the board the trip is a super opportunity to see how a team of health specialists work together to heal individuals. He said it will also tie in biology with current career options in the medical field. This is the second year for SEA Perch, an underwater robotics program with 3 or 4 teams. School competition is march 11, they will compete in regionals at Duquesne April 8, and national competition at Georgia Tech in May.
Commissioner Dan Camp Wants To Do Away With Current Form Of County Government
Beaver County Commissioner Dan Camp wants to do away with the current form of county government. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti reports that at this morning’s work session, Camp said he wants to a question to appear on the ballot in the May primary that asks voters whether they want to replace the current three-commissioner county government with a Home Rule charter, with a county council and one county executive. Commissioners chairwoman Sandie Egley agreed.
Columbia Gas To Replace Underground Pipeline In Beaver Falls
Columbia Gas plans to spend nearly two-million dollars to replace a mile of underground pipe in Beaver Falls. Columbia Gas spokesman Lee Gerczynski tells Beaver County Radio’s Pat Septak that the project is necessary due to the aging pipes. Customers with indoor meters will have them relocated to the outside of their homes. Gercazynski says customers along 19th, 20th and 21st streets in Beaver Falls will be affected. The project is expected to continue through the fall.
Rock slide Closes University Blvd. In Moon
A rock slide has closed University Boulevard southbound in Moon. The street is closed between Stoops Ferry Road and Campus Drive. A detour has been posted: Stoops Ferry to Flaugherty Road to Broadhead. The rock slide started Tuesday afternoon.

Hopewell Township Commissioners Hoping To Fill Positions Left Vacant By Resignations
The Hopewell Township Commissioners accepted the resignation of Bernie Juth who served as a guard at the township depository, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Township manager Norm Krause, Jr.. said that Juth resigned because his wife is ill’. He will receive a certificate of appreciation for his service. The township commissioners are asking that anyone interested in applying for the position to stop at the twp. office for an application. A vacancy on the Creswell Heights Water Authority Board needs to be filled. Anyone interested is asked to send a letter of interest to the township office. This is a volunteer position. Krause said the use of the township’s websites for information has increased , including the parks and recreation site.. He said parks and recreation director Vickie Gill is making a great effort to get the info out on upcoming events. The planning commission named Bob Williams as chairman on january 19, they will meet on Thursday, February 16.
Man Charged With Manufacturing Meth In Aliquippa
A man is facing charges for allegedly manufacturing meth in Aliquippa. Officers stopped Vincent Langworthy in the parking lot of the Crestmont Shopping Center Saturday after receiving a report of suspicious activity. Items used to produce meth were found in Langworthy’s vehicle and a subsequent search found similar items in his home.
Beaver Area Teachers Getting Pay Increase
Several hourly and daily-wage positions with Beaver Area schools are getting a pay raise. The school board approved the increases yesterday. Among the pay hikes is a 50-cent uptick for full-time and substitute special education teacher assistants. Nine of the 14 school districts in the county pay more than Beaver Area. The district saved 70-thousand dollars by eliminating half a dozen positions in the current budget, and the money will be used to pay the increases.
