The 2016 inaugural 5 Star Skills Camp golf outing is set to take place at the Fox Run Golf Course in Beaver Falls on Saturday. The event is to help raise money for their organization, which helps kids play in national games. State Fire Marshall To Investigate Aliquippa House Fire
The State Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate the cause of an early morning house fire in Aliquippa. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports the one-alarm fire started in the kitchen of a home in the 15-hundred block of Mt. Vernon Dr. There were a total of six residents living inside the home. There were no injuries reported.
Commissioner Tony Amadio Still Hopeful But Downplaying Pending Announcement Of Cracker Plant
Many Beaver Countians are eagerly anticipating a big announcement from Shell Chemicals regarding the proposed ethane cracker plant to be built in Potter Township. But in an interview with Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak, Beaver County Commissioner Tony Amadio says it’s possible that there may not even be an announcement. He says the company may decide to just keep going without saying anything until the plant’s opening. Amadio says when Shell first announced they they were considering Beaver County as a future site, it was a game-changer for him. He says he was planning to retire at the end of serving two terms but decided against that when he heard about Shell’s pending plans for the county.
Aliquippa High School Basketball Hopeful To Appear In Court To Face Judge On Robbery Charges
A former Aliquippa high school basketball star whose legal troubles likely kept him from the NBA will appear before a federal judge in Pittsburgh today on charges he robbed two banks earlier this year. 26-year-old Herbert Pope is charged in the armed robberies of a Wesbanco branch and Sewickley Savings Bank four days apart in February. Pope is charged with robbing the banks along with another man. Pop starred at Aliquippa Junior-Senior High School then played for Seton Hall before graduating in 2013. The 6-foot-9 prep star was shot in 2007 on the day he was to play in a high school all-star game, and later faced weapons charges in unrelated incidents. Pope faces up to 25 years in prison on the most serious charge he faces, armed bank robbery.
Hopewell School Board Approves Bids for Renovation Of High School Auditorium
The Hopewell School Board has approved bids for the renovation of the high school auditorium. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, C.W. Smith of Beaver Falls was awarded the construction bid of $430,300. The electrical construction bid went to R.E. Yates of New Castle for $80,544. The next meeting will be June 14 at 7 p.m., and the 2016-2017 school district budget will be adopted at the June 21 meeting at 7 p.m.
Police Charge 25-year-old In Road-Rage Incident That Locked Down Moon Area Schools
Police have tracked down a former Beaver County resident in connection with a road-rage incident Monday afternoon that prompted the lockdown of the Moon Area middle and high school campus. 25-year-old Evan Christy faces multiple charges after, police said, he followed a woman into the high school parking lot and pointed a handgun at her when she stopped to pick up her child at the high school. He then sped away. Authorities say they used police video captured from a Moon intersection to trace the license plate number of Christy’s vehicle. The registration came back to a Beaver County address, but detectives determined Christy no longer lived there and they were then able to further track him to a Moon address on Tuesday. He faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 7.
Freedom Area School District Under Boil Water Advisory
The Freedom Area School District is under a boil water advisory due to traces of e-coli found in the New Sewickley Township water supply. DEP regional spokesman John Poister tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that they notified the district of the notice. Students in the district are being asked to wash their hands with anti-bacterial soap and refrain from drinking from the water fountain until the situation is rectified.
Super Bowl Sites Announced
The NFL has announced Super Bowl sites thru the year 2021. 2019 will be played in the new stadium in Atlanta. 2020’s site is Miami. 2021’s game will be played at the new 3.25 billion dollar stadium in Inglewood California. That will be the new home of the L A Rams.

Long-Time Hopewell Township Police Officer Resigns
News out of Hopewell Township this morning. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano is reporting that township police officer Jim Lewis retired from the force recently after serving the township for 36 years.. Chief Brian Uhrmacher made the announcement at last night’s meeting.
Applicants for part time positions on the force are being interviewed.
Township manager Norm Krause, Jr. announced that 2 interns have been hired and are working on the park fest to be held in July. Parks and Recreation director Pam Fiejdasz left the position 2 weeks ago.
…and township road dept. manager Chuck Srafin announced that the summer road program has begun , and patching is being done on several streets.
