Geneva College In Beaver Falls Ranked Among Best Colleges In Pennsylvania

Several western Pennsylvania colleges – including one in Beaver County – are being ranked among the best values for students. U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Colleges issue ranks Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Seton Hill University in Greensburg and Slippery Rock University in the top 60 northern U.S. schools for providing a high-quality education at a lower cost. Seton Hill was also recognized among the best colleges for veterans.

Keith and Frank talked about electricity and First Energy’s recent announcement that they will be closing the Bruce Mansfield Coal fired plant and the Shippingport Nuclear Power Station. Representative Rothfus discussed how he is spear heading an effort in Washington to get President Trump to help so that Beaver County doesn’t lose these two plants. Gas Line explosion in Center Twp this morning

A gas line explosion lit up the sky vivid orange early today in Center Twp. Multiple cars were burned and One home and two garages were destroyed when a natural gas line exploded before 5 AM in the area of Ivy Lane in Center Township. The explosion occurred in a line owned and operated by Energy Transfer.

1,300 residents were evacuated with many going to the fire hall on Brodhead Road.

Some people required medical attention because of health issues but no one was injured in the explosion.

The pipeline company told officials that valves were shut off, but there was plenty of remaining gas in the line that needed to burn off.

The Beaver Valley Expressway is closed between the Center Township exit and the Aliquippa exit in both directions. Detours will take all traffic to Pleasant Drive, Brodhead Road and Mill Road. Darlington Road will have a single lane open in each direction.

North Korea’s 70th Anniversary

North Korea celebrated its 70th anniversary on Sunday. The major military parade included its latest tanks and its best trained goose stepping units. In keeping with Kim Jong Un’s new policies, the most advanced missiles were not present as the emphasis was on building up the economy, not on nuclear weapons. The iconic mass games were also revived after 5 years. The games are a grand spectacle of 20,000 people flipping placards in unison to create huge mosaics as thousands more perform gymnastics or dance in formation.

Tower of Voices

The dedication of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA was held on Sunday. The 93 foot tall Tower of Voices contains 40 wind chimes representing the 40 people that died in the crash of Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Passengers fought back after the now-famous “Let’s Roll” was uttered and the terrorists then crashed the jetliner in a field.
There will be a “Let’s Roll” Remembering 9-11 program held in Irvine Park at the Gazebo in Beaver tomorrow at 5PM that will include a time to honor all first responders in Beaver County as well as a community picnic and entertainment.
