“Best of Beaver County” with Jim Roddey presented by St. Barnabas talks athletics and publishing this week

(Beaver Falls, PA)  “The Best of Beaver County” with Jim Roddey presented by St. Barnabas Health System stepped onto the Softball field with Geneva College Athletic Director and Girl’s Softball Coach Van Zanic and then Jim Roddey talked publishing of a local publication  with Jason Bumblis, President of Pacer Studios.

In the first segment Jim talked with Van Zanic about his career and how he became the softball coach and Athletic Director at Geneva College in Beaver Falls. Zanic told Roddey about how he fully believes in the mission of Geneva College and that it’s not all about the sport that he coaches that it is about shaping these college athletes into outstanding adults and getting them a quality christian education while having fun playing sports at Geneva College. Van told Jim of his love for Geneva and his position at the college.

In Segment Two Jim interviewed Jason Bumblis, President of Pacer Studios. Roddey and Bumblis talked about Pacer Studios and the publication that his company makes that is distributed to certain local towns. The guys talked about the stories that are in the publication and how Jason and his staff research the stories before writing them.

Pittsburgh Ranks Among Top 10 Cities For Worst Traffic

Pittsburgh is among the top 10 cities for the worst traffic, according to a new study done by Forbes magazine. Pittsburgh is ranked the seventh-worst for traffic tie-ups. Researchers say the average driver spends 127 hours per year stuck in traffic. The study also looked at the 10 most congested stretches of road and one busy part of I-376 was among the worst. The stretch on I-376 from I-79 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike was the fifth-worst. The average time a commuter loses by sitting there is 72 hours. The top three worst cities for traffic, respectively, are Boston, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

Philadelphia Zoo Bringing Back Its Iconic Zoo Key

The Philadelphia Zoo is bringing back its iconic Zoo Key. The plastic keys, shaped like different animals, will return in April. They will unlock book-shape boxes throughout the park with prerecorded stories from zookeepers and “insider secrets” about the animals. Shaped like an elephant using its trunk to unlock the talking story box, the original keys made their debut in Philadelphia in 1960. Other animals, such as lions, were made into keys in subsequent years.

THIS WEEKEND’S BEAVER COUNTY SNOW SHOVEL RIDING CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEEN MOVED TO NEXT SATURDAY – FEBRUARY 23rd, WEATHER PERMITTING. THE EVENT WILL BE HELD AT OLD ECONOMY PARK, JUST OFF ROUTE 989 IN ECONOMY BOROUGH. ANYONE CAN ENTER AND THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE. REGISTRATION FOR THE EVENT IS HELD ON THE SATURDAY OF THE EVENT BETWEEN 11 AND 12 NOON IN THE MAINTENANCE BUILDING AT THE PARK ACROSS FROM THE BARN. BEAVER COUNTY RECREATION & TOURISM DIRECTOR TIM ISHMAN SAYS A DECISION EACH WEEK IS MADE BEFORE 12 NOON EACH THURSDAY. THIS WILL BE THE LAST ATTEMPT TO HAVE THIS EVENT IN 2019.
