In an effort to reduce the number of injuries and deaths of Pennsylvania infants, the House of Representatives Wednesday approved legislation, authored by Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler), which would increase education about infant CPR to expectant and new mothers. House Bill 783 would establish the infant CPR and Choking Education and Prevention Program in Pennsylvania. On a recent edition of Rappin With The Reps on Teleforum here on Beaver County Radio, Marshall told host Frank Sparks that the program would provide expectant and new mothers with information about the proper infant CPR techniques and infant Heimlich procedures…
Choking is the leading cause of all injury deaths for infants under one year of age. According to the American Heart Association, parents are among the most important people who need to learn how to provide choking relief and CPR to their children.House Bill 783 now moves to the Senate for consideration.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has launched a new campaign targeting teens who are using nicotine products. Pennsylvania Health Secretary, Dr. Levine says, “We are launching a new multimedia campaign aimed at helping parents begin the conversation about vaping with their children.” The goal of the campaign is to help parents prevent children from vaping and using e-cigarettes. The department says that if you use tobacco and need free help quitting, visit smokefree.gov or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
Everyone is back home safe after a fallen tree caused a propane leak leading to the evacuation of three Hanover Township homes over the weekend. The tree fell onto two 500-gallon tanks in the 100-block of Oak Lane late Sunday evening. The homes were evacuated for about 12 hours until the gas dissipated. Since propane is heavier than air, the gas remains lower to the ground longer. No one was hurt.
Pennsylvania State Police have released the name of the victim in that deadly train crash in Lawrence County. Troopers say 58-year-old Dwight Spann of New Galilee was killed early yesterday when his SUV was hit by a train along Larchwood Road in New Beaver. There’s no word yet how Spann’s vehicle became stuck on the tracks. The Lawrence county coroner pronounced Spann dead at the scene. The accident took place just after midnight.
