Oklahoma Man Accused of Raping 4-year-old Child in McDonald’s Restroom

A 37-year-old Oklahoma man has been jailed on rape complaints after authorities said he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl in a bathroom at a McDonald’s play area, which the child was visiting during a day care field trip. Midwest City police say a day care worker knocked on the locked bathroom door Tuesday after the girl didn’t return promptly. A police affidavit says a man eventually came out and said, “I was just washing my hands.” The child told workers the man, identified as Joshua Kabatra, sexually assaulted her. McDonald’s said in a statement that it’s “deeply disturbed” by the allegations and that it’s cooperating with police.

Police: Lancaster, PA Parents Left 4 Young Kids in Hot Car for at Least 20 Minutes

Four young children were found in a hot car in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, according to police. Their parents are charged with leaving them there for at least 20 minutes.None of the children are older than 3-years-old and are now in the care of social workers.Just this week, a new law in Pennsylvania went into effect to protect children left in hot cars. The law protects Good Samaritans from lawsuits if they break into a car to free a child they believe is in danger. A similar bill passed last year allowing police to enter a car to save an animal. Last year, 51 children died from heatstroke.

YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Cancels Three of its Summer Camps

The Y-M-C-A of Greater Pittsburgh is canceling three of its summer camps following the death of a teen. The organization says it is going to continue its review of safety protocols and procedures following the death of 15-year-old Nathan Kanczes, who was attending Teen Wilderness Camp at Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer in Beaver County. The teen was on an outing in Somerset County when he fell sustaining critical injuries.

Ellwood City Police Charge Big Beaver Man with Leading Cops on High-Speed Chase

Ellwood City police have charged a Big Beaver man they say led them on a high-speed chase back in May. According to authorities,  20-year-old Kyle Christopher Hartle faces charges of fleeing police, reckless driving and various traffic violation. Police attempted to pull Hartle over for a traffic offense May 22 while it was traveling on Second Avenue, but instead the vehicle took off, passing vehicles improperly and not stopping for traffic signals as it continued onto Route 288 in North Sewickley Township. Police ended the pursuit and the investigation led to Hartle being identified as the driver.

Police: ‘Person of Interest’ in Fatal Shooting of Pgh Police Officer in Custody

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say a “person of interest” in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Pittsburgh police officer is in custody. A Public Safety Department spokesman on Thursday night said the person is held on charges unrelated to the death of 36-year-old Officer Calvin Hall. The spokesman did not release the charge or the person’s name. Hall died Wednesday at a hospital after he was shot three times in the back early Sunday during a street dispute as one or more parties were going on

Man Facing Charges After Striking Home with Pickup Truck in New Brighton

A man is facing charges after striking a home with his pickup truck yesterday in New Brighton. Jason Sheets was allegedly drunk when he drove through a fence and onto the rear patio of a home on 16th Street. The 31-year-old was found later walking on the 17-hundred block of Penn Avenue and reportedly acted belligerent while being taken into custody. Sheets’ preliminary hearing is set for August 9th.

PUB Asks Residents to Conserve Energy During the Heat Wave

With high temperatures and humidity expected around the area over the next several days, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is asking residents to conserve energy and prepare for a power outage. Energy conservation and cooling ideas from the PUC include turning off non-essential appliances and as many lights as possible; postponing using appliances that produce heat until after 7 p.m.; and spending as much time as possible in rooms that do not receive direct sunlight.
